Job Description

COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited is a member owned organization with a national footprint,
registered under the Cooperative Act 1998. COMSIP works with rural and peri-urban community
groups that are owned, managed and controlled by members themselves and its main thrust is
building a culture of savings and investment among ordinary Malawians in a quest to improve
livelihoods.

COMSIP has received funding from the World Bank through the National Government Finance
Commission (NLGFC) towards the implementation of Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods
Project (SSRLP). COMSIP therefore intends to use part of the funding to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, and result oriented project staff on the posts tenable at COMSIP Head Office, in Lilongwe as follows.

Accounts Assistant

The Accounts Assistant shall report to the Financial Accountant.

Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare payment vouchers emanating from duly authorized and approved requests.
  • Supporting payment vouchers with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Batch transactions by entering account information in Sage Accounting System.
  • File payment vouchers and all accounting documents.
  • Print accurate payment vouchers and related cheques.
  • Register the cheques in a cheque register for signing.
  • Input bank payments in Electronic Funds Transfer System.
  • Ensure vouchers and all accounting documents are properly filed.
  • Issuing of receipts for funds received from affiliates and staff.
  • Maintain Petty Cash.
  • Ensure timely liquidation of funds for activities.
  • Prepare Monthly Bank Reconciliations for all bank accounts.
  • Timely remittance of PAYE, Withholding Tax and Pension.
  • Prepare Withholding Tax Certificates.
  • Manage disbursements of cash during meetings, trainings & field activities.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Minimum Diploma in accounting
  • At least 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Have a high level of written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Sage accounting package.
  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft
  • Member of Institute of Chartered Accounts in Malawi (ICAM)
