Program Description:
Employing a market-led approach, TechnoServe plans to implement a legume and oilseed value chains project in Lilongwe and Dedza, Malawi. The program will focus on creating sustainable and inclusive market systems that benefit smallholder farmers. By facilitating partnerships and fostering linkages between smallholder farmers and these market actors, TechnoServe will improve access to quality inputs, technical knowledge, and financial services. Through continuous capacity building and leveraging local institutions, the project aims to build resilient value chains that drive long-term economic growth, improve food security, and promote environmental sustainability in Lilongwe and Dedza
Position Summery:
The purpose of this position is to secure reliable markets and link the smallholder farmers to markets both forward and backwards in , crops, farm equipment or any agriculture products accessed by smallholder farmers through the project using market based solutions.
Roles and Responsibilities include:
Market Development and Training
- Support the development, selection and/or adoption of guidelines, tools, models and protocols to aid Business and Market Development in operational areas
- Fostering entrepreneurial skills among farmers to enhance productivity, income, and sustainability.
- Assess and support quality activity implementation to ensure that the program is within scope, time and budget. Encourage linkages and support market communication between key actors (including farmers) to inform improved quality and reliability of supply
- Support smallholder farmers and others to profitably invest and use funds generated
- Ensure compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards with the target farmers
Private Sector Engagement
- Forge public-private partnerships involving commercial agribusiness, food processors and local producers or producer associations in operational areas and provide linkages to finance.
- Provide technical support and leadership to farmers to ensure that targeted communities have increased access to market and financial services
- Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in management and commerce with specialization in agriculture sciences, farm management, or agricultural marketing/economics or agribusiness.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in agricultural marketing
Skills and Experience
- Knowledge in the basics of food processing, marketing, and input/output distribution and the barriers that may inhibit the marginalized, women and youths’ full participation in agribusiness enterprises.
- Communication skills, along with application of those skills with various marketing and private sector led strategies are required
