Aquaculture Associate – Community Agribusiness Partners (CAP)
Job Description
Community Agribusiness Partners (CAP) formerly known as the Clinton Development Initiative (CDI) is working with a network of over 75,000 farmers in the central region of Malawi including Balaka and Machinga districts in the southern region. CAP is actively working with farming communities to transform agriculture into a business and a catalyst for social and economic change. CAP is implementing the “Integrating Aquaculture-Agriculture to Combat Food Insecurity in Malawi” Project in partnership with the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada.
The approach of the Project is focused on two aspects:
i. The development of small-scale and low-cost integrated aquaculture- agriculture systems (IAAS) for small-scale producers, especially women, and
ii. Strengthening the role of small-scale producers and small-and-medium sized enterprises including co-operatives in the value chains, especially women-led.
Reduction of food loss along the production chain will be a key feature by addressing harvest loss between beginning and completion of harvesting; loss between harvest and retail; and loss between retail consumption.
CAP is therefore inviting applications from suitable qualified applicants to fill the position of an Aquaculture Associate and Field Officers.
Aquaculture Associate
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and setup of integrated aquaculture agriculture systems.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs for farmers on integrated farming techniques
- Provide technical guidance on best management practices in fish farming techniques, including breeding, nutrition, and aquatic health management.
- Monitor and evaluate aquaculture practices to enhance productivity and sustainability.
- Work closely with the Aquaculture Field Officers, Government Officers, Partners and other specialists to ensure the success of the project
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in aquaculture or fisheries management.
- Knowledge of fish health management, including disease prevention and treatment protocols.
