VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

ARTISANS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL LATRINES

The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) is a voluntary based humanitarian organization established in 1966 by Act 51 of Parliament with the mandate to assist the vulnerable communities. Malawi continues to be vulnerable to cholera due to poor WASH the situation which is worsened by frequent weather events, such as cyclones, storms, floods, landslides, and droughts. Four Cyclones namely Idai, Anna, Gombe, and Freddy experienced within a space of 5 years from 2019 caused serious damage to WASH infrastructure and health facilities worsening the risks and occurrence of Cholera.
In view of the above situation, MRCS intends to continue supporting the Malawi government through the implementation of Cholera outbreak control and community-based surveillance and interrupting cholera transmission through improved infection prevention & control measures.

It is against this background that MRCS received funding from IFRC for cholera preparedness in five districts for Nsanje, Blantyre, Mangochi, Salima and Karonga to provide preventive WASH and Health services such as hygiene education and promotion, sanitation and safe water supply so as to prevent and control cholera outbreak that may occur.

MRCS is urgently seeking to engage properly qualified, motivated, capable, and experienced persons to cover available Artisan positions in Nsanje, Blantyre, Mangochi, Salima, and Karonga. The details of the positions are as follows:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB/WORKS

The Artisans will be tasked with the construction of toilets at schools located in the districts of Nsanje, Blantyre, Mangochi, Salima, and Karonga.

Specific duties, responsibilities and accountabilities.

The Artisan will be responsible for the following: –

1. Execute the construction of toilets.

2. Oversee the utilization of materials supplied by MRCS to ensure proper application.

3. Administer the inventory of all materials.

4. Supervise all personnel recruited to assist with construction activities.

5. Deliver progress reports to MRCS authorities

6. Collaborate with community members to facilitate the mobilization of local resources.

7. Provide on-the-job training to local builders under your supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Possession of relevant construction training or certificates such as Trade Test I, II and III or city guilds.
  • Those who has similar experience will have an added advantage.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in construction works.
  • Those registered with National Industry Construction Council will have an added advantage
  • Self- starters, and able to work under minimum supervision.
  • Artisans should be from the affected districts preferably within locality of the sites or the affected villages.
