Background
The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is a Development service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM). It was established in 1989 in response to a request from ELCM and Malawi Government, primarily to assist the Mozambican Refugees who were in Malawi then. ELDS is operational in 13 districts across the country namely Chikwawa, Neno, Mwanza, Zomba and Phalombe in south; Dowa, Dedza, Kasungu, Lilongwe Rural, Nkhota Kota and Mchinji in Centre; Mzimba and Chitipa in the North. ELDS works in rural areas to reduce human suffering and poverty through sustainable development (food and nutrition security, Micro-finance, Value
Addition and Marketing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Health Services (Maternal and Child Health, Malaria and Trachoma Elimination, Sexual Reproductive Health); Climate Change and disaster management; HIV and AIDS, Psychosocial, Gender, Human Rights and advocacy as cross cutting.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Finance Officer to join our finance team and contribute to the effective financial management of our projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly project financial reports.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register for all projects.
- Ensure ELDS is tax compliant by applying and remitting relevant taxes to the Malawi Revenue Authority on time.
- Provide financial and budgetary support to ELDS Project Officers to enhance effective and efficient project implementation.
- Assist in preparing annual project proposal budgets and ensure all budgets are accurately entered into ACCPAC.
- Handle banking activities and perform bank reconciliations.
- Prepare staff salaries and manage payroll processes.
- Manage bank correspondence, including international and local funds transfers.
- Provide detailed monthly expenditure analysis to the Finance and Administration Manager.
- Manage petty cash payments and serve as the safe key custodian.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably within a development organization.
- Proficiency in accounting software, particularly ACCPAC.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Malawi’s tax regulations and compliance requirements.
