Job Description

NASFAM is a smallholder-owned and directed business system serving the interests of a growing membership across Malawi.  NASFAM facilitates member access to input supplies and value-added output markets.  Working with donor partners, it provides a range of development programmes which support improvement of member livelihoods, including productive capacity and quality of life.  Through an active policy programme, NASFAM also speaks as the “voice of the smallholder” on the national and international arenas.

In order to support delivery of services to its smallholder farmer members, NASFAM is seeking the services of an individual to fill the position of Association Business Manager for its Innovation and Productivity Centre (IPC) based in Nathenje, Lilongwe. 

Reporting to the Association Services, the Association Business Manager will serve in a business management and operations capacity, working directly with Association Leaders to manage crop production and commercial programmes to maintain business and financial systems and to supervise staff as necessary for the efficient running and sustainability of the Association. 

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Seek and pursue business opportunities/activities that can assist in improving Associations and IPCs   
  2. Search marketing opportunities and link farmers to identified markets 
  3. Produce strategic business plans for IPCs in liaison with the Association Board and the Business Development Unit 
  4. Recommend new services to Association members that would improve member and Association income  
  5. Oversee the implementation and monitoring of all programme activities at Association and IPC level
  6. Develop and maintain strong communication network system between Association Office, action groups, clubs and other stakeholders for an effective delivery of service. 

Qualifications

Minimum Educational Qualification of a degree in Agribusiness, Business Administration or related field.

Experience: At least 5 years in a similar role.

Key Competencies / Attributes and Skills

–  Proven experience in managing Associations or cooperatives

–  Knowledge and experience of crop production and marketing;

–  Strong communication skills;

–  Good people management skills and adaptable;

–  Good analytical and report writing skills;

–  A strong understanding of the agribusiness sector 

–  Experience dealing with donor reporting and audit requirements.
