African Parks (AP) is a non-profit organisation that takes on direct responsibility for rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas, in partnership with governments and local communities. By adopting a business approach to conservation, supported by donor funding, African Parks aims to make each park sustainable in the long-term, thereby contributing to economic development and poverty alleviation. Currently African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves and Liwonde National Park.
African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant position.
Position: Auto Electrician
Location: Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve
Reporting to : Workshop Supervisor
Contract: Fixed Term Contract
Job overview
The primary function of this role is to install, inspect, maintain, diagnose and repair all electrical issues under the supervision of Workshop Supervisor.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements
- Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
- Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
- Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems
- Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
- Provide consultation on correct maintenance and
- preventative measures to machine or vehicle users
- Keep logs of work and report on issues.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of National Trade Test Grade l or its equivalent in Auto Electric Technology
- Must have 3 years practical experience in a busy mechanical workshop, working on Toyota Land cruisers, Isuzu trucks, Massey Ferguson Tractors, Caterpillar grader/ TLB and motorcycles.
- Good troubleshooting or diagnostic skills
- Hardworking and trustworthy
- Those with a valid motor vehicle driving license will have added advantage
- Ability to be organized, flexible, self-motivated and work effectively with minimum supervision.
- Those with basic knowledge on Motor Vehicle Mechanic will have added advantage
- Ability to work long hours in very remote and physically demanding circumstances
- Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
