Job Description

Banking Operations Officer (Temporary-12 Months)

Department: Banking

Location: Blantyre- Head Office

Validity period: 07/02/2025 – 12/02/2025

About the Role

Role Purpose:

To provide administrative and accounting support to FINCA’s back office function to ensure that it effectively and efficiently provides high quality service for the organisation.

 Key Result Areas & Duties:

  1. Processing of deposit slips made at 3rd parties (other banks)
  • Process bank deposit slips in time and accurate manner
  • Reconcile postings against emails or hard copies received on daily basis
  • Provide daily report on postings made to branches and management
  • Resolve queries from branches arising from the posting of 3rd party slips
  1. Processing reversals of transactions as requested
  • Process all reversals of duplicates and any other miss-postings
  • Process reversals of late charge upon management’s approval
  1. Processing of Other transactions as requested
  • Process cash collateral deposit slips done at other banks
  • Process bill of sale deposit slips done at other banks
  • Process returned cash deposit slips done at other banks
  • Process loan write off
  • Process early loan settlements
  • Process savings withdrawal
  • Process credit bureau data
  1. Customer accounts management
  • Caution customers
  • Block and activate customer accounts
  • Re-accession of loan accounts
  • Review of customer accounts
  1. Process Deceased claim as requested
  • Process all death claims that the department receives within 12 hours from the time it’s received.
  1. Reconciliation
  • Reconcile all settlement transactions using the transaction/settlement reports to ensure appropriate values are received by the bank as at when due on daily basis
  • Reconcile all bank accounts against the nostro account on weekly basis
  • Provide report on any issues found and liaise with finance and branches involved on any reversals which must be made
  • Ensure that channels account reconciliations are done daily
  1. Loan processing
  • Independent review of loan applications from branches to ensure adherence to stipulated policies on approvals limits, loan terms, loan amounts, loan repayment periods and other credit criteria
  • Process/create requests from branches
  • providing timely feedback to originating branches on exceptions and rejections of incomplete documentation on loan requests
  • Maintain a record of loan documentation, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality
  • Compile daily and weekly reports to management
  • Conduct CRB search for all loans disbursed
  • Ensure that CRB search for the clients’ details are done before and disbursement
  1. Filling
  • File all paperwork in accordance with FINCA filling procedures.

About the Candidate

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Business/ Accounting from a reputable university or college.

Experience:

  • Working experience in a banking sector or treasury section will be an added advantage

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and training in accounting, financial/or credit analysis or related areas
  • Ability to set, monitor and assess achievement against performance targets and quality standards
  • Excellent mathematical skills: calculating interest, commissions, promotions and percentages: balance accounts, compute rate, ratio and percentage
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Intermediate skills in personal computer operation, word processing and spreadsheet program, Knowledge of PowerPoint is an advantage
