Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS POSITION:

The office Caretaker/Chef is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment for all employees and visitors. This role ensures that the office premises are well-maintained, providing a pleasant and functional workspace.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (KEY TASKS):

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming all office areas
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, and common areas
  • Ensure all surfaces, including desks, tables, and windows, are clean and presentable
  • Report any maintenance issues or repairs needed to the Office Manager

SUPPLY MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and office consumables (e.g., paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap)
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning and office supplies
  • Ensure that there are sufficient pre-paid units of electricity, and inform supervisor when credit reaches 300 units
  • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of kitchen supplies e.g. tea, milk, coffee, water, etc

FACILITIES SUPPORT

  • Assist Administrative Assistant to ensure that the office is opened in the morning and closed in evening of working days, opening/closing windows and doors, switching off air conditioners and lights in the evening
  • Report any faults, lost or damaged items promptly to the Administrative Assistant in writing, with explanations when appropriate
  • Alert the Administrative Assistant on arising security issues from security service provider

Other Duties

  • Daily preparation of lunch for staff and meals for meetings held at IFPRI Malawi conference room. High level hygiene has to be followed
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • At least three (2) years’ relevant work experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work responsibilities
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced work environment
