Job Description

Wealthnet Finance PLC is registered by the Reserve Bank of Malawi as a Deposit Taking Microfinance Institution. The institution is looking for a visionary, innovative and strong candidate capable of managing and directing overall operations of the institution. The candidate must be a big picture type of individual, who must completely understand good corporate governance and be able to set and monitor functional SMART goals. The candidate must have a strong management background with practical understanding of tools used to measure/monitor the performance of members of staff within the organization. This is a most senior and very important position that requires a deep understanding of banking operations, as well as microfinance industry. The candidate must be conversant with designing innovative financial products.

Roles and Responsibilities include the following:

1. CORPORATE STRATEGIC PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

  • Lead in the design and implementation of corporate strategies for the institution;
  • Provide guidance to the board on how to improve on the company’s operations in all departments;
  • Develop and enforce sound policies and procedures for the departments and operational activities;
  • Collaborate with heads of departments in creating and implementing long term business plans to ensure continuity and sustainability of business operations;
  • Review and determine skills gaps and staffing requirements and ensure the company has adequate staff;
  • Lead management in sourcing and developing business core capital;
  • Plan and implement a sound, practical and efficient corporate resource utilization;
  • Lead and manage fast pace growth in opening new branches and agent network across the country.
  • Lead and manage acquisition and adoption of suitable technologies for various aspects of the business.

2. OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Monitor daily operations to ensure a free flow process and execution of daily tasks;
  • Oversee performance of core activities ensuring that procedures and policies are followed;
  • Coach, mentor and supervise core business personnel and ensure that they are adequately trained and operate at a high standard of timeliness and professional competency;
  • Ensure effectiveness and efficiency in all departments, team development, team morale and implementation of finance code of conduct at the various levels in operations;
  • Plan/budget and manage utilization of company resources in liaison with heads of departments;
  • Manage staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties
  • Ensure and enforce effective time management for the entire members of staff.
  • Timely submit board reports according to company policy
  • Prepare schedules for board and management meetings and ensure that such schedules are adhered to at all times.

3. COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Compile company reports as required by regulatory authorities i.e. Reserve Bank of Malawi;
  • Have the capabilities/strong understanding of managing a listed company.
  • Develop financial back up plans to protect business operations in the event of major crises that could result in huge losses;
  • Review effectiveness of operational procedures for all departments and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Ensure that all company operations are done within the company’s approved policy framework.

4. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • The ideal candidate must have minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Business, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration will be a plus.
  • Management/Finance/Banking or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • They must have at least 8 years’ managerial experience from the banking or microfinance industry.
  • Must have at least 10 years’ experience in banking and/or microfinance sector.
