Job Description
Malawi Against Physical Disabilities is a non-governmental organization which provides free medical rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities in Malawi through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, provision of assistive devices and many more. We run outreach programs through regional offices in Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Rumphi. We also run the Kachere Rehabilitation Centre situated in Blantyre, which is the only referral facility for persons with disabilities in the country. We also produce assistive devices in workshops placed in the regional offices.
With support from the Malawi Government, through the Ministry of Health, we are looking for suitable candidates to work in various professions to fill in vacant positions and help us achieve our goals and objectives in fulfilling our mandate. The positions are as follows:
CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER (1)
We need the services of a Chief Finance Officer to handle the financial management issues of the organization. The person will be offered a three year contract in the organization. He/ she will be the overall in-charge to oversee the financial growth, efficiency and sustainability of the organization.
The Individual
Reporting to General Manager:
The person will be a member of the management team and therefore should have excellent organizational and proven financial management and analytical skills as well as being also meticulously detail-oriented. He/she must have deep numerical awareness, strong numeracy skills, and a keen interest in the growth, efficiency, and financial sustainability of the organization. The candidate must also demonstrate outstanding written and verbal communication skills with technical ability in negotiating skills. Should be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure whether independently or as part of a team. Should be conversant with international accounting standards.
Qualifications
- A certified graduate public accountant from a recognized institution registered with appropriate regulatory bodies.
- Those with ACCA or similar qualifications have an added advantage.
- Should have at least 4 years of experience in a senior/ Management position.
- Those with experience in handling government subvention and funding and international donor funds have an added advantage.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, organize and execute the financial tasks of the organization
- Develop and implement plans for budgeting forecasting and reporting
- Make estimates of funds required for the short- and long-term financial objectives of the organization
- Source, install, and implement safe and recommended software package for accounting in MAP
- Complete financial reports, forecasts, and statements as required e.g., weekly, monthly and do lead the month-end closing process and conduct a financial forecast
- Monitor the cash flow of the organization to ensure funds are available to meet cash flow needs.
- Prepare periodic financial reports as required by donors, audit, and other functions
- Managing and monitoring the performance of the bank accounts and overseeing cash transfers between head office and regional offices/Preparing journal entries and account reconciliations. Assisting and guiding General Manager in providing relevant financial information during budgeting, reporting to donors, and daily decision-making activities.
- Scrutinizing and authorizing payrolls and other legitimate payments
- Prepare monthly grants reimbursements, ensuring timelines, accuracy, and compliance with any special grants agreements
- Ensure appropriate grant documentation is prepared and maintained to support reporting on any special projects with government and other donors
- Support and collaborate with other members of the team on special projects as needed
- Take charge of staff leadership, coaching, and development
