Job Description
Our Client, a major player in the financial services industry, seeks to engage the services of a Chief Investment Banking Officer (CIBO). The position is tenable in Blantyre, Malawi.
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The Chief Investment Banking Officer (CIBO), a member of the Bank’s Executive Management team, inter alia
- leads the Investment Banking Division of the bank, as well as transaction teams, seeking to grow total client earnings across the range of products (corporate finance and advisory, listings (debt, equity and derivatives), securitizations. Government and international business, structured trade, and project finance), with particular emphasis on increasing client return: and
- leads in the development and implementation of the investment banking strategies for the bank, and overseeing the rollout of an investment banking agenda across selected clients in the targeted sectors, mainly in issuance of tradable financial securities and other advisory efforts. The CIBO is expected to be an entrepreneur who will take initiatives to develop and improve business, in ling with evolving market dyamics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
STRATEGY:
- Drive implementation of the Bank’s approved strategy for corporate financial advisory and investment banking:
- Lead the development and implementation of investment banking annual activity plans and scorecards, and ensure alignment with the overall enterprise objectives; and
- Provide regular updates to executive management and the board on strategy implementation.
GOVERNANCE:
- Coordinating and ensuring that investment banking transactions from early-stage origination, through term sheet negotiations, due diligence, approvals, documentation and disbursement comply with the bank’s established procedures and policies; and
- Ensure that the bank’s risk management policy and procedures are well understood and adhered to within investment banking.
LEADERSHIP:
- Lead a department of managers, associates and transaction analysts.
- Develop capacity building programs for staff in investment banking.
- Sustain the bank as a thought leader in investment banking and financial advisory services in Malawi.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:
- Lead in deal origination and marketing activities of the bank.
- Identify target markets and evaluate business opportunities while driving change essential to the advancement of business.
TRANSACTION EXECUTION:
- Organize and lead corporate finance and transaction teams on all transactions and due diligence exercises;
- Lead in financial modelling and deal related processes; and
- Lead in deal and other negotiations.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
- Develop and communicate a strong business vision, strategy and plans for clients and the portfolio, while maintaining the highest level of customer service and satisfaction: and
- Provide a corporate finance style solutions-based approach to clients.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree and post graduate degree Accountancy. Business Administration. Economics and Finance from a recognized university and a post graduate professional qualification such as ACMA and ACCA.
- Sound experience of at-least 10 years at a senior management level demonstrating familiarity with the capital markets including stock exchanges, corporate finance and project finance.
- Knowledge of developing project finance transactions from origination to placement.
- Understanding of pricing, capital utilizations, risk allocation and risk reward concepts.
- Primary experience with SADC markets (Banks, Investment funds or related industry fields) will be a plus.
- Mature, articulate and responsible individual, a self-starter, be proactive and accountable for targets and results.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to organize, manage and motivate teams to attain goals.
- Hands on experience in debt and equity origination.
