Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) is a Trust that was established to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products to meet the needs of all patients in authorised hospitals in Malawi.
It is committed to meet its objective of collecting, processing and testing all blood from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors in low-risk populations to international standards, in a cost-efficient manner.

Clinic Nurse- Two Positions

Job Summary
The Clinic Nurse position is responsible to and receives directions from the Nursing Officer and in her absence the Chief Nursing Officer
The Clinic Nurse will carry out all aspects of blood collection activities including the selection, care of blood donors, phlebotomy, providing pre- and post-donation advice, promoting blood donation
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Enrolled Nurse/Midwife/Nurse Midwife Technician
- Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
- Two years’ work experience in a busy hospital
- Good communication skills
- Good team spirit contributing to a successful team
- Quality awareness and good customer care skills
- Ability to perform Venepuncture
Responsibilities
- Prepares the clinic in good time for the arrival of donors ensuring that all the resources are available using the check list
- Supervises and participates in ensuring their safety
- Recruit blood donors, educate and carries out basic physical checks on blood donors in line with the Standard Operation procedure.
- Carries out confidential assessment (risk behaviour interview) with potential donors
- Proficient in conducting Phlebotomy
- Provides post donation care and advice.
