Job Description

The Missionary Community of St Paul the Apostle (MCSPA), in partnership with Mary’s Meals International (MMI) with a focus on a goal-to ensure that children are fed with a nutritious meal at their place of education is implementing Community-Based School Feeding Program (COBS) since 2022. This program aims to alleviate hunger by providing daily meals to children at their place of education, improve the nutritional health status of school-going children, and promote community resilience and food security by linking schools with local, sustainable production.

To achieve these commitment, therefore the Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the post of COBS extension officer.

JOB OVERVIEW

Extension Officer for Community Based School Feeding Programme (COBS) will play a key role in the day to day running of the Community Based School Feeding Programme in ensuring that School and community based activities are being carried out effectively and in accordance to MM-MCSPA COB SFP Delivery Model and the surrounding communities are participating to acceptable standards

The officer will also play a link role between the school, communities and MCSPA

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDES:
  1. Community and Stakeholders Engagement
  • Supporting schools to establish and implement initiatives that will support sustainability of the Community Based School Feeding Programme
  • Provide training and technical Knowledge to relevant stakeholders for the effective implementation of the Community Based School Feeding Programme
  • Continues engagement of school/Community members for their actively participation in farming activities
  • Linking and Coordinate with Government department frontline staff e.g. EADOs, CDAs for the effective implementation of the Programme
  • Support and ensure Schools identify enough land to cater for the full annual school feeding days
  • Create and ensure that all schools have vibrant School Health and Nutrition Committees for effective implementation of the Community Based School Feeding Programme
  1. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Closely Monitoring all School and Community Gardens and advise them on crop production and best practices in the school gardens, shelling of grains, processing of grains to flour
  • Develop and submit weekly, monthly and situation reports
  • Identify and deal with emerging issues in the Programme and effectively reporting the same to PM
  • Ensure all farm and school Visits and the actions taken are consistently logged in the school activity log and all actions that require follow up are effectively reported, addressed and/or appropriately escalated
  • Facilitate the delivery of farm inputs, school Feeding Programme supplies and equipment that includes
  1. Programme Data Management
  • Adherence to the Programme data Collection, Verification and Management in Accordance to MM- MCSPA SFP Programme
  • Take full responsibility on all matters of primary data Quality
  • Actively train teachers /Volunteers on MM-MCSPA on appropriate farm and grains data compilation tools and methods including completeness, accuracy and ownership
QUALIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENT
  • A Diploma in Agriculture or related field
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Chichewa
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A valid motorbike riding license and the ability to ride a motorbike
  • At least 3 years’ experience in practical work or related field preferably with communities in rural areas.
