Job Description

Mulanje Mission College of Nursing and Midwifery (MMCNM) of the CCAP Blantyre Synod is one of CHAM affiliated tertiary institutions offering training services to healthcare providers in the country. The College is seeking to recruit a qualified and self-motivated person to immediately fill the vacant post of an Accountant tenable at the institution. This is a management position and the person
will be responsible for all accounting functions at the College. The person should therefore be mature and an all-rounder in Management and Financial Accounting roles and be capable of effectively supervising and managing staff in the accounting office to achieve great efficiency and effectiveness in the management of College finances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate day to day operations in the College finance department
2. Prepare annual, biannual, quarterly and monthly accounts for the college in line with relevant International Accounting standards
3. Prepare timely and accurate returns to statutory and regulatory bodies such as tax returns, Synod levies, medical schemes, subscriptions and membership fees and pensions and gratuities
4. Prepare and control of College annual estimates, cash flow in consultation with all College sections
5. Coordinate both internal and external audits of the college
6. Analyse and advise College management on financial performance
7. Perform financial forecasting and risk analysis
8. Adopt and implement an appropriate expenditure monitoring and
control mechanism for the college finances.
9. Manage reconciliations of College accounts and consolidate
accounting books
10. Supervise and support the junior accounts personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCES

Qualification and Experience

  • Qualified Accountant registered with the Malawi Accountants Board.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited university.
  • At least 3 years’ experience of working in a busy accounting office.
  • Experience working in a similar CHAM affiliated training institution will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of Accounting Software packages such as Quick books and SAGE Line and Advanced Microsoft Excel.
