Communications Officer USF – Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)
Job Description
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is a statutory body established under the
Communications Act (Cap. 68:01 of the Laws of Malawi) to regulate the provision of services in the communications sector of Malawi, comprising telecommunications, posts and broadcasting.
Under the Communications Act, MACRA is mandated to regulate and monitor the provision of communications services and ensure that, as far as it is practicable, reliable and affordable communications services are provided throughout Malawi. The Vision of MACRA is to ensure
the provision of communication services for a digitally transformed nation.
In order to fulfil its mandate effectively and efficiently with strategic leadership and management, an opportunity has arisen within MACRA to fill various vacant positions. The positions are highly demanding that require persons who have demonstrable capacity to initiate innovations geared
at making MACRA a rejuvenated, vibrant and competitive Authority. The following are the details of the vacant positions.
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER USF (MA6)
Job Purpose
To oversee and support media activities and campaigns including research, content creation, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
i. Developing content for the USF’s social media channels, taking work from teams, and crafting it
into copy, images and video that will engage online audiences.
ii. Assisting in the day-to-day maintenance and development of the USF social media accounts.
iii. Arranging media coverage of USF events.
iv. Implementing the strategic and proactive schedule for social media channels.
v. Managing social media requests for all teams.
vi. Measuring, and reporting on the success of social media content.
vii. Advising on the suggested social media activity around key campaigns and events and coordinate
social content strategies.
viii. Managing the enquiries for information and support from individuals who approach USF through social media channels.
ix. Leading on creating graphics, infographics, and video content to be delivered on USF social media
platforms.
x. Carrying out awareness programs.
xi. Managing corporate social Responsibility activities.
xii. Managing events that involve speech writing and playing the role of director of ceremonies.
xiii. Acting as additional photographer at USF’s events when necessary
xiv. Helping in producing the annual report and IEC material i.e brochures, leaflets, calendars, t-shirts, cups, umbrella.
xv. Managing own time effectively and always ensure attention to detail.

The ideal candidate for the position is expected to have the following:
a) An in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms.
b) Effective communication and presentation skills.
c) Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
d) Ability to work as part of a team.
e) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
f) Time management and multi-tasking skills
Educational, Professional Qualifications and Experience
i. Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication Management or related field
ii. 2 years’ work experience in a media or communication setting.
