Job Description
Background
The International Potato Center (CIP) is implementing the DeSIRA project, focusing on Climate-Smart Innovations to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of agriculture and food systems in Malawi through multidisciplinary research. The project aims to enhance climate change adaptation within agricultural and food systems by developing integrated technological innovations and fostering their uptake by farmers. Additionally, the project seeks to inform policymakers and scaling partners about the potential of these technologies to contribute to climate resilience and sustainability.
To enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of managing data generated by project partners and in alignment with the EU data access and sharing policy, the DeSIRA project recognizes the need to establish a comprehensive, centralized data repository. This repository is crucial for storing and managing all project-related datasets. To ensure its successful operationalization, the project has decided to hire a Data Collection Consultant to support the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team in the creation, management, and functionality of the data repository.
Objective
The Data Collection Consultant will support the Senior Research Associate in mapping data sources from all partners, including different CGIAR centers. The role will involve gathering datasets, ensuring accurate data entry, assisting with data analysis, and contributing to the operationalization of the data repository.
In executing this assignment, the consultant will undertake the following specific tasks:
- Develop a structured plan to map and source all datasets.
- Collect datasets from all project partners across various locations.
- Enter all collected datasets into the centralized repository.
- Conduct basic data accuracy checks during entry.
- Generate the first report on data collection progress.
- Detailed data validation and address any inconsistencies.
- Conduct a thorough quality check on all datasets.
- Begin to collect datasets for the 2024-2025 season
- Resolve any missing or incomplete data entries.
- Enter all collected datasets for the 2024-2025 season into the centralized repository
- Submit a detailed report on the overall data quality and recommendations
- Complete final data validation and reporting.

Requirements
Selection Criteria
- A degree or diploma in data management, information systems, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working for donor-funded agricultural development projects
- Proven experience in data entry, database management, and data analysis.
- Proficiency in using data management software and tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, or data visualization tools).
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Understanding of EU data access and sharing policies is an advantage
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Time frame
- The successful Candidate(s) will be placed on roster and will remain eligible for consideration for a period of 12 months, after which their status may be reviewed based on the needs of CIP. Roster placement does not guarantee employment but ensures that the candidate will be considered for relevant, similar openings during the roster period.
