Job Description

Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication is one of the leading local health and development communication NGO in Malawi. Its mission is to empower Malawians, particularly the vulnerable, to choose and sustain healthy behaviors, through evidence-based health and development communication, community mobilization and advocacy. Pakachere IDC is implementing several projects in Malawi.

One of the projects is the LEAP which is implementing a set of interventions to reduce HIV transmission among key populations in Malawi and improve the quality of life of key populations living with HIV. Pakachere IHDC is inviting suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions that are available under the LEAP project:

District Coordinator

Required Number: 1 (One)

Place of work: Lilongwe

Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Technical Director, the District Coordinator (DC) will be responsible for providing technical leadership for provision of Key population services in Lilongwe.

S/he will coordinate HIV prevention, care and treatment activities and she will work directly with the district health office (MOH) Coordinators or any designated office

and ensure that FSW are being identified and motivated to accesses services. S/he will be responsible for overall oversight of the district operations to achieve LEAP goals.

Specifically, s/he will:

  • Ensure effective operation of the district activities by providing monthly activity plans
  • Ensure effective operations of drop-in centers in the district
  • Lead the strengthening of HIV/AIDS referral system for key populations at district and facility level and network service delivery points (System strengthening).
  • Build a sound working relationship with district health office as well as facilities
  • Supporting outreach workers and mentoring them to effectively discharge their duties
  • Maintain good quality clinic data and adequate commodities consumption records, calculate consumption and make requisitions on time to avoid stock-outs.
  • Work with DHO to ensure that project is provided with adequate stocks of drugs and medical commodities as well as safe custody of the drugs and equipment in the facility and liaise with relevant authorities to ensure continuous supply of test kits, condoms and other commodities to the facility.
  • Strengthen relationship with all relevant stakeholders
  • Submit timely reports to the Technical Director.
  • Coordinate district quarterly review and experience sharing meetings with district partners facilities (Joint M&E)
  • Conduct district supervisions and SIMS activities to improve quality of services.
  • Support Drop-In Centre Managers to deliver quality services
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all key stakeholders
  • Attend all district coordination meetings

Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold a degree or a Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Nursing/ midwife from a recognized training institution and in possession of a registration certificate issued by the Nursing or Medical Council of Malawi. A degree will be an added advantage
  • At least three (3) years’ experience working in a busy Key population and/or HIV and AIDS service provision including HIV testing, STI screening and treatment, ART provision and care and support.
  • Three years experience in Project Management and experience working with key population.
    Good oral and written communication skills (English and Chichewa)
  • Computer literacy in the use of MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
