About Tsogolo La Thanzi – Healthy Future (TLT)

TLT is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to improving the life conditions of the people of Malawi through innovative program interventions informed by scientific research. Our vision is to improve the human condition of poor and marginalised communities using innovative scientific solutions in pursuit of a healthy future and happiness. TLT was founded in 2009 to implement social science and public health research. TLT has received a grant from UNICEF to design, co-create and implement local solutions to improve vaccine coverage among zero dose or under vaccinated children using design thinking or human centred design. TLT invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates to fill the six (6) positions that have been stated in this advert:

Job Title: District Project Coordinators

Job Purpose

Reporting to the director of programs. The District Project Coordinators position is a key field management role for implementation of local solutions to improve vaccine coverage among zero dose children. The District Project Coordinators will be part of the TLT program management team and will play a pivotal role in leading program management at the district and field level. The District Project Coordinators collaborate with field teams, stakeholders and community structures to deliver the various activities and outputs to communities served by the program.

Duties & Responsibilities

The District Project Coordinators responsibilities include:

  • Conduct stakeholder meetings at district, traditional authority and community levels to ensure buy-in of local stakeholders into the Zero-dose program.
  • Manage a team of district and local stakeholders through supervision, mentorship & coaching to deliver high quality community engagements.
  • Lead the field teams in the execution of public health activities such as Creating demand for vaccinations and WASH programs among others.
  • Manage field finance expenses prudently with proper accountability and transparency, in line with the finance policy.
  • Develop weekly work plans, budgets and reports for field activities and ensure execution of the planned activities, in line with agreed upon targets
  • Manage field data and reports for various activities through smart phone technology
  • Ensure high adoption of Human Centered Design interventions in assigned locations through managing all the drivers of adoption, which include community knowledge, community ownership and promoter engagement.
  • Take delegated responsibilities in logistical and field operation planning, supervision and reporting
  • Other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the director of planning

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Nursing, Social Sciences, or a related field. A master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or a similar field would be a plus.
  • Additional certifications or training in Social and behavior change communication (SBCC)vaccination programs, child health, or immunization would be beneficial.
  • Fluency in English and local language spoken in the operational location, both spoken and written
  • 5 years of experience in management of community-development project activities with an NGO, community-based organization or social enterprise
  • Excellent communication skills and good public relations
  • High-level discipline and good character while engaging with the community and their leaders, program teams and managers
  • Community service attitude/ Passion to work in a rural community setting
  • High level of integrity and stewardship
  • Embraces teamwork and enjoys working in a team environment as a team champion
  • Good computer skills, data entry and management skills for program performance reports
  • Positive attitude and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment

Working conditions

The District Project Coordinator position is both office and field-based positions. The incumbents will spend 50% of their time in office and 50% in the field.

Desirable qualities of candidates

The incumbent of this position will directly be engaged with community members at a local level and collaborate with local stakeholders. 

The candidate must be able to travel by various modes of transportation and must also be able to navigate unfamiliar environments and adapt to different cultural norms.

In addition, the candidate should have the ability to work in less developed rural areas, which may have limited access to modern infrastructure and amenities. This may require the candidate to adapt to basic living conditions, such as limited electricity or running water, and be comfortable with potential challenges such as extreme weather conditions, insects, or wildlife.
