PATH’s Center for Malaria Control and Elimination (CMCE) works with PATH staff and strategic partners to coordinate expertise and programming and maximize our collective impact toward malaria elimination.
PATH seeks a Driver for the USAID-funded Reaching every at-risk community and household with malaria services (REACH Malaria) global project. REACH aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in comprehensive delivery of facility and community-based malaria services, including malaria case management, prevention of malaria in pregnancy (MiP), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), health systems strengthening, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions.
The Driver will report to the Program Assistant and assist with project logistical activities. The position is tenable at the Lilongwe Office and at the District (Nkhatabay/Nkhotakota)
Responsibilities:
- Operate the assigned project vehicle.
- Drive project staff, consultants and visitors as needed/assigned.
- Fill and maintain the vehicle movement log-sheets in accordance with PATH & USAID Malawi policies.
- Prepare and submit monthly vehicle fuel utilization and maintenance reports to the administrative officer or his or her delegate.
- Support the project’s activities.
- Run office errands, collect mails, and deliver packages/parcels across the project’s field offices and sites.
- Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely and report all maintenance needs to the administrative officer or his/her delegate on a regular basis
- Keep vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc safe always.
- Keep the vehicle ready, clean and on standby – ready for use always.
- Cooperate and be of assistance to staff and visitors on route planning and navigations.
- Adhere to the project’s and PATH Malawi’s fleet management regulations.
- Adhere to the Malawi Highway code.
- Assist in workshops/training materials preparations and delivery when called upon.
- Execute any relevant duty that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
- Processing Certificate of fitness, change of ownership for motor vehicles and proxy for the organization at road traffic directorate and Malawi revenue authority.
- Immediately reports all involvement of the project or office vehicle in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings.
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least 4 years driving experience preferably in a busy NGO set up.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certificate of good conduct.
- A minimum of MSCE certificate.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Vast Knowledge of Malawian roads and terrain, specifically Lakeshore areas
- Proper understanding of Malawi highway code/traffic rules and regulations.
- Ability and willingness to work extra hours when required.
- Basic computer skills and training in vehicle mechanics will be an added advantage.
