Banyan Global implements the Learn to Perform (L2P) Activity in Malawi, a task order under the Eval ME II Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, in collaboration with The Mitchell Group and Invest in Knowledge. The L2P activity is funded by USAID. The L2P Activity strengthens USAID/Malawi ‘s capacity to make data-driven decisions and strategically steer its integrated Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) toward greater development results.
Banyan Global is recruiting a highly skilled Economic Governance Expert to join a team of political economy analysis experts to conduct a comprehensive Political Economy Analysis (PEA) of the effects of economic policies and governance structures on socio-economic development in Malawi. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in economic governance, policy analysis, and the political economy. The role also involves analyzing economic policies, governance structures, and their impacts on socio-economic development, focusing on Malawi.
The ideal candidate for this position will have conducted or participated in PEAs for USAID and are available to start working on this assignment within one week of signing the contract.
The anticipated level of Effort (LOE) for the study is 45 days over about 12 weeks. The position is open to Malawian Nationals only. The successful candidate will work both remotely and at the L2P offices.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of the PEA study design, including a detailed background, methods. Samples, ethical procedures, the PEA design matrix and data collection/abstraction tools
- Establish contact details for selected key informants.
- Participate in data collection, including a desk review and field-based data collection, and analysis of findings
- Contribute to the preparation of detailed inception, preliminary and final reports,
- Provide expert recommendations on economic governance issues, including fiscal management, public sector reform, and institutional capacity building, based on the PEA findings.
- Prepare and participate in the dissemination of PEA findings and critical messages to target audiences.
- Respond to ad hoc requests related to the assignment from the Team Leader
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years’ experience in economic governance, political economy analysis, or related areas.
- Knowledge of the Malawi political and economic context.
- Knowledge of economic governance models, frameworks, or tools.
- At least 5 years’ experience in conducting research, preparing reports, and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
- Candidates with knowledge of USAID’s PEA Framework and experience conducting PEA for USAID will be preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
