Job Description
The Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company (SLWSC) Limited is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated by the Malawi Government for implementation of the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project. The Project aims at accessing water from Lake Malawi in Salima District to Lilongwe City
and districts along the pipe corridor including Dowa and Salima. The Company’s mandate is to manage implementation of the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project, and to develop and manage water resources for raw and potable bulk water supply to support the socio-economic development of Malawi. The Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company invites applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill the following vacant posts on Temporary basis:
ENVIRONMENTAL SAFEGUARDS OFFICER
Based in Salima and reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Environmental Safeguards Officer
will be responsible for the following:
a) Support the development, maintenance and operation of the environmental safeguards compliance monitoring system including reporting progress of implementation of environmental safeguards;
b) Support the collection, analysis, and utilization of environmental safeguards information in
projects under implementation;
c) Preparation of periodic project progress reports with adequate input on project performance on environmental safeguards;
d) Ensure adequate environmental, social, health and safety (ESHS) records and documentation
are kept (including photographs);
e) Carrying out periodic inspections of the projects to ensure ESHS compliance;
f) Reviewing Environmental and Social Management Plans.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences from a recognized institution, with at least two (2) years’ experience in the relevant field.
