Job Description

Umodzi Holdings Limited (UHL) is a prestigious domestic brand under thename ‘Umodzi Park and Resorts’ (UPR), situated in the heart of Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe. UHL is a 100% Government-owned company that boasts properties like the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), a five-star hotel, and the Presidential Village, which offers world-class accommodation and office rental facilities.

UHL is inviting applications from energetic, result-oriented, and suitably qualified Malawians within the organization to fill the following vacant positions:

Job Title: F&B Controller

Reporting to: Finance Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and distribute accurate daily, weekly, and monthly cost reports to management, highlighting variances and trends.
  • Monitor food and beverage cost percentages to ensure adherence to budgeted targets.
  • Conduct and oversee daily, weekly, and monthly physical stock counts for food, beverages,and related items.
  •  Investigate and report on stock variances, implementing corrective measures where necessary.
  • Maintain an updated inventory management system to ensure real-time stock tracking and analysis.
  • Accurately cost recipes for all menu items, ensuring alignment with profit margin objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and F&B Manager to analyse menu performance and suggest adjustments based on cost-effectiveness and sales trends.
  • Verify invoices against purchase orders and delivery receipts, ensuring all discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Oversee the receipt of all food and beverage items to maintain quality and quantity standards.
  • Work closely with the procurement team to source quality products at optimal costs.

Qualification and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • A Diploma in Accounting, Hospitality Management, or a related field will be considered if complemented by extensive experience in cost control and financial operations.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a cost control or financial management role within the hospitality industry, with a focus on food and beverage operations.
  • In-depth understanding of F&B cost management, inventory reconciliation, and recipe costing.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate costs, variances, and profit margins effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with kitchen, F&B, and finance teams.
  • Proven ability to implement cost control measures and identify inefficiencies in F&B operations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities to manage complex financial data
