PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Building Systems and Linkages for a comprehensive Multi National Lung Cancer Control Program (BSL-MLCCP) Project is a multiyear project that is supported by the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation under the Global Cancer Disparities Initiative and the Multinational Lung Cancer Control Program (MLCCP). This program is being implemented by the Facilitators of Community Transformation (FACT) in collaboration with Malawi Ministry of Health and the Malawi National Cancer Centre. The main goal of the BSL-MLCCP project is to improve access to early diagnostic services for lung cancer by addressing the barriers of cancer care through working with communities and the Ministries of Health in Mzuzu and Lilongwe.The project will be targeting Lilongwe and Mzimba districts in the first phase with potential of scaling up to additional districts in successive phases. FACT is now inviting applications for the following positions to fulfil the goals and mission of the project.

Field Officers (2 positions Lilongwe and Mzimba)

The filed officer will be the project liaison between Program team, community and health facility personnel. Below are the key responsibilities of the FO. This position will be directly reporting to the Program Director.

Responsibility

  • Carrying out routine supervision and support program implementation in the target districts
  • Enrolling study participants and create awareness of the study
  • Supervise enumerators for data collection and provide training
  • Carry out project oriented research duties, report writing, development of study protocols and design methodologies/implementation strategies
  • Create awareness and demand for Lung Cancer screening within the communities through implementation of population targeted interventions
  • Implement lung cancer case finding initiatives in liaison with health facility staff
  • Support the cancer centre activities such as deployment of palliative care services whenever necessary
  • Ensure follow up with beneficiaries of the project to reduce service access challenges
  • Work with cancer centre Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) and project nurses in all lung cancer care centres within their catchment areas
  • Carry out Epidemiology mapping to understand and determine high risk populations wherever necessary to promote targeted interventions
  • Consolidate activity reports and donor reports
  • Develop and implement project oriented acceleration plans to meet targets and objectives
  • Support the organisation in all clinical interventions to add value to the project goals

Job Requirements.

  • At least a Diploma in clinical Medicine
  • Must be practising and certified with medical council of Malawi with not less than 5 years practical experience
  • In possession of a motorcycle licence, if not must be willing to obtain one in a short period
  • Have a better understanding of Non Communicable diseases in Malawi, such as cancer
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities within on ongoing engagements.
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health at a district level, DHMT and district research committees.
  • Strong analytical skills, and ability to use computer software such as ODK, Microsoft excel and word packages.
  • Ability to train, coach and mentor supervisees;
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and to travel to project sites as needed
  • Ability to sustain excellent relationships with external partners and stakeholders
