Program: Building Education Foundations Through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) Program
Location: Lilongwe/ Ntcheu
Reports To: District Coordinator
Project Focus Areas: Agriculture, Livelihood, WASH, Nutrition, Gender Empowerment

Job Overview:

The Field Officer is responsible for implementing project activities in the field, focusing on agriculture, livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), nutrition, and gender empowerment. The role involves working directly with communities, local authorities, and partners to ensure
effective delivery of project objectives. The Field Officer will ensure that project interventions are timely, high-quality, and sustainable while enhancing community participation and promoting gender equity.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Implementation

  • Conduct community mobilization and sensitization on agriculture, livelihoods, WASH, nutrition, and gender interventions.
  • Assist in planning and organizing field activities such as training sessions, workshops, and community outreach programs.
  • Support the delivery of agricultural services, including the distribution of inputs, technology transfer, and climate-smart agriculture practices.
  • Facilitate the implementation of livelihood programs aimed at improving household income and resilience.
  • Coordinate WASH activities such as hygiene promotion, safe water access, and sanitation improvements.
  • Work closely with nutrition specialists to deliver nutrition education and ensure access to quality nutrition services.
  • Promote gender equality and ensure women’s active participation in all project activities.

Community Engagement and Capacity Building

  • Build the capacity of community members, farmer groups, and local partners through training and technical support.
  • Foster community ownership and participation in the project activities to enhance sustainability.
  • Facilitate the formation and strengthening of community groups, especially women’s groups and farmer cooperatives.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Regularly monitor project activities and progress towards targets using established
    tools and frameworks.
  • Collect data and maintain accurate records of project activities, beneficiaries, and results.
  • Prepare and submit timely progress reports and updates to the Project Coordinator/
    Manager.
  • Identify challenges, risks, and opportunities and propose solutions for improvement.

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other project staff to ensure integrated and coordinated mplementation of project activities.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with community leaders, local government representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison between the project team and the community to ensure smooth communication and address any issues that arise.

Gender Mainstreaming

  • Ensure that all project activities incorporate a gender-sensitive approach, promoting
    the empowerment of women and girls.
  • Advocate for gender equality within communities and work towards creating inclusive
    environments for all project beneficiaries.
  • Identify and address gender-specific barriers to participation in project activities.

Compliance and Ethical Standards

  • Ensure all activities comply with organizational policies, donor regulations, and ethical
    standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, inclusion, and respect for all community members, with particular attention to the protection of vulnerable populations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in community development, agriculture, WASH, nutrition, and gender projects, preferably in a rural or humanitarian setting.
    Technical Skills: Strong understanding of agricultural practices, livelihood programs, WASH, nutrition interventions, and gender-sensitive approaches.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Language: Proficiency in [local language] and English.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to travel frequently to project sites and work in challenging environments. A valid driver’s license is preferred.
