Job Description

TOTAL LANDCARE: EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Total LandCare (TLC) is a non-profit working in Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, and Tanzania to improve rural livelihoods. They focus on enhancing farm productivity and resilience through sustainable practices, supporting farmer groups, and integrating micro-finance and market strategies.

TLC has obtained funding for development projects in Northern, Central, and Southern Malawi.

The projects aim to: (a) enhance local food systems by improving food and nutrition security, climate resilience, and income for rural households, and (b) restore land and livelihoods for vulnerable small-scale farmers while increasing carbon sinks through sustainable evergreening practices.

TLC is therefore seeking the services of qualified, highly motivated, and hardworking persons to fill the following posts:

1. Field Officers -X7- Climate Smart Agriculture, Agribusiness, Natural Resource Management, Gender, and Nutrition

Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this position is to enhance community resilience and agricultural productivity through active engagement and support in project activities

Major Responsibilities

  • Sensitize communities, farmers, and Village Development Committees on project activities, and facilitate the formation of clusters with stakeholders.
  • Identify villages, producer groups, and households for activities; strengthen or establish local governance structures; and guide the development of community-based action plans.
  • Provide formal and informal training on climate-adaptive agriculture, livestock management, post-harvest practices, nutrition, and related technologies using various methodologies
  • Facilitate the establishment and management of model farms and villages based on project interventions.
  • Support communities in implementing landscape restoration measures such as tree planting, soil and water conservation, and improved cookstoves.
  • Help communities access weather and other information to make informed farming decisions.
  • Assist farmer groups in accessing inputs, markets, and financial services, and provide training in collective marketing and financial literacy.
  • Train local governance structures in corporate governance, rights, conflict resolution, and by-laws related to natural resource management.
  • Advocate for co-management of natural resources with the government, and promote gender and social inclusion in project activities
  • Distribute field supplies, equipment, seeds, and other inputs to farmers, ensuring proper monitoring and adherence to distribution systems.
  • Collect and organize M&E data, develop action plans, and submit reports. Produce quarterly work plans and reports for performance appraisals.
  • Represent TLC at meetings, provide updates on activities, and cooperate with

Knowledge, qualification and experience required;

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Forestry, Community-Based Natural Resource Management, Landscape Restoration, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years in climate-resilient agriculture, including expertise in conservation agriculture, irrigation, agroforestry, livestock, agribusiness, natural resource management, and nutrition.
  • Proficiency in decentralized extension systems, such as Lead Farmer, Farmer Field School, and Farmer Business School methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a high standard of professionalism, trustworthiness, confidentiality, and integrity

Rumphi: 1 Position (Mhuju/Mphompha EPAs)

Mzimba: 2 Positions (Luwerezi, Mpherembe EPA)

Kasungu: 1 Position (Chulu EPA)

Machinga: 2 Posttions (Nanama EPA

Dowa: 1 Position (Nalunga/Nachisaka EPAs)

The contracts are for 12 months period and can be renewed annually, depending on performance and the ongoing status of the projects.
