Field Production Supervisor – Bayer Malawi

Role purpose
The role holder is responsible for managing field production activities and process to ensure the
achievement of commercial seed hybrid production volume and quality targets. This includes the sourcing and recruiting growers, providing agronomic support to the growers, and managing the relationship with the growers to ensure the delivery of high quality seed to Bayer. Key responsibilities and tasks
- Providing agronomic and crop protection extension support to growers throughout the season.
- Implement, coordinate and functionalize QMS (Quality Management Systems) (ISO9001) systems in the field operations by adhering to SOPs to meet quality specifications.
- Maintain and monitor seed quality in accordance with seed certification standards and requirements.
- Recruiting, training, contracting good seed growers and evaluating field production operations
regularly to achieve targets/objectives and goals. - Controlling of cost in field productions pursuant to set budgets.
- Act a liaison between seed certifying bodies or their agents and Bayer.
- Act as subject matter expert for good agriculture practices through Best practice days.
- Collection, management, and utilization of agronomic, performance and weather data for
repository and future decision making. - Carrying out progressive yield estimates at different growth stages.
- Development of field operation plan and ensuring all growers execute operations timely and deliver seed within the contractual agreement.
- Making sure all field activities are being conducted in a safe manner by the contracted growers and their staff and ensure that growers are following recommend safety requirements in field operations.
- Implementing and managing the human rights program for the field operations as per Bayer
Human Rights Policy. - Maintaining and monitor quality of the grown seed in accordance with the seed certification
requirements. - Developing field budgets and controlling the cost of field production in accordance with the specified budgets.
- Preparation of weekly, Bi-weekly field activity report, monthly and ad-hoc reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Competences
- Undergraduate Degree in Agricultural Sciences.
- At least 7 years field production experience preferably in the seed industry, 3 of which must be
at a supervisory level. - Demonstrable competence in seed production and seed processing operations.
- Must be a holder of a valid driving license with a good safety record.
- Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
