Job Description
Save the Children US (SCUS) seeks a Finance Manager for its Country Programme in Malawi. While the successful candidate will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi, all functions of this role will be coordinated with and supported by the SCUS HQ Finance Department and SCUSI Management Unit.
Position Objective
Reporting to the Country Programme Manager in the country, the role will be responsible for managing the finance functions of the SCUS Malawi Country Programme. This includes oversight over payroll, managing treasury activities, financial planning, budgeting, financial accounting, accounts payable and receivable, tax management, financial reporting, and compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordination with SCUS HQ Finance Team: the role and the responsibilities listed below will function in collaboration with and support from the SCUS HQ Finance Department.
- Payroll Reporting: In coordination with the HR Administration role, ensure accurate payroll data reporting to the SCUS HQ Finance Department.
- Treasury Activities: Manage cash flow and handle bank transactions.
- Financial Planning and Budgeting: Support the Country Programme financial planning and master budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Financial Accounting: Oversee general ledger accounting, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Tax Management: Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, manage tax filings, and handle tax-related queries.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare statutory and donor-specific financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure financial compliance with internal policies and external regulations and manage financial risks.
- Month-End Closing: Oversee the month-end closing process, including preparing data packs and money movement reports.
- Prepare the year-end close: Execute all necessary entries, create the schedule, and liaise with HQ.
- Annual audit: Collect documents as requested by the auditor.
- Support document organization: Ensure proper documentation and filing.
- Fraud prevention/anti-money laundering: Reporting, implementing, establishing, and monitoring internal controls to prevent and detect fraud, bribery, and money laundering activities. Report incidents as needed.**
Required Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent. Advanced Degree in Accounting or Finance or other related functions is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 6 years of specialized or varied experience (four of which should be at manager or senior officer level) in accounting, finance, or grants management.
- Strong proficiency in using Financial Management Information Systems (SAP) and computerized accounts packages, and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience in Financial Management Systems (FMS – Agresso, Oracle & AMS desire) and processes.
- Ability to develop complex budgets and manage all related financial transactions.
- Experience with International Donors or Development Agencies
- The highest level of integrity and commitment to preventing corruption.
- Local taxation and statutory reporting experience
