The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is a Statutory Corporation established by the Investment and Export Promotion Act of 2024. It is mandated to promote and facilitate investment and exports in Malawi, facilitate allocation of land to investors and regulate, implement, monitor and supervise all aspects of the special economic zones
The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is planning to recruit a Finance officer to fill an existing vacancy.
POSITION: FINANCE OFFICER
The Finance Officer post is at Grade MITC5 on the authorized establishment.
The Finance officer will be responsible to the Finance Manager at Grade MITC3. He/she will be instrumental to the effectiveness of the Finance function by supporting the Finance Manager in the areas of financial reporting, budgeting, facilitation of audits, development and implementation of systems and internal controls, knowledge management in the finance section, financial risk management, financial management, timely settlement of statutory/ regulatory obligations and supervision and development of staff in the Finance section.
Duties and responsibilities
- Timely preparations of draft monthly management accounts and other financial reports as required by other stakeholders for review by the Finance Manager.
- Preparation of draft budgets for review by the Finance Manager.
- Preparation of audit schedules and documentation to facilitate smooth external and internal audit processes.
- Continuous updating of the accounting manual to achieve effective development of systems and internal controls in a dynamic operational environment.
- Ensure that assets are physically tagged and recorded in the finance records in line with prevailing accounting standards.
- Effective knowledge management for the section.
- Financial Risk management for the section.
- Timely reconciliations for review by the Finance Manager.
- Preparation of Project financial reports and reconciliations.
- Assist in the development of IT systems for the Finance function.
- Financial management to ensure the Centre has financial resources to fund its operations and obligations.
- Timely settlement of statutory/regulatory obligations.
- Maintaining due diligence, integrity, competence, and objectivity when carrying out your duties.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Major Working Relationships
Finance Officer will work in collaboration with the Finance Manager in all accounting transactions in relation with all stakeholders.
Competences and qualifications
The Finance Officer should be a highly experienced professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience within Finance. He/she should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or related fields from a reputable and recognised University and an international recognised professional accountancy certification at least at the intermediate level. The successful candidate shall be a mature professional capable of working effectively with minimum supervision. Strong interpersonal, communication, organisation and leadership skills are a must. External audit experience will be an added advantage.
