Job Description

THE ORGANISATION

The Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) is a Statutory Corporation established under the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act No. 17 of 1987 Chapter 36:01 of the Laws of Malawi. MCM exists to protect the general public and guide the medical, dental and allied health professions. MCM has the mandate of regulating practitioners and health facilities, regulating training of health care workers, and managing health care complaints.

To fulfil its mandate, MCM would like to fill the following position:

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT- GRADE MCM 4.

A. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Accountant shall support the Director of Finance and Administration in leading the finance functions of the Council.

B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the leadership of the Director of Finance and Administration the Accountant shall:

  • Line manage the finance section staff members
  • Monitor revenue collection, receivables, expenditure and payables.
  • Assist management in preparation of annual budgets and advise management on expenditure patterns to ensure expenditure is within budget.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of ledger books.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of control measures and ensure that they are adhered to always.
  • Manage inventories and carry out quarterly stock taking of inventories and assets.
  • Compile financial data regularly and publish timely financial statements, and handle monthly, quarterly and annual closings
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration.

C. JOB REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, education, experience, and skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related accounting field plus professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, CIMA.
  • Those with Master’s Degree will have an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) years experience in busy accounting environment.
  • Should be registered and be in good standing with Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) and ICAM.
  • MUST have experience in Sage Accounting Software.
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office Packages.
  • Able to work independently.

Successful candidates shall be offered salaries, benefits and packages commensurate with the seniority, experience and qualifications of the candidate and in line with MCM structure.
