Fundraising Officer – Tiyeni Organization

Job Description

TIYENI is a local non-governmental organization mandated to promote sustainable farming in Malawi through an innovative climate smart agriculture method known as the Deep Bed Farming. Since 2005, Tiyeni has been implementing soil and water conservation agriculture to smallholder farm families to achieve food security and combat poverty at household level in Malawi.

With Funding from the Global Innovation Fund GIF, Tiyeni in Partnership with the Northern Region Water Board NRWB and the Stockholm International Water Institute SIWI is implementing a 4 year project to conserve the Lunyangwa River Catchment in Mzimba.

We are inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position.

General Abilities and skills

1. Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
2. Passionate about serving farmers in the rural areas
3. Must be able to work with minimum supervision
4. Excellent report writing skills
5. Ability to analyse data and provide actionable insights based on field assessments.
6. Designing and implementing M&E systems
7. Problem-Solving Abilities. A proactive approach to identifying challenges and developing solutions.
8. Strong Communication Skills

FUNDRAISING OFFICER

The ideal candidate will be motivated, professionally organized and have a knack for research. Tiyeni is looking for someone who believes in the mission of the organization and has exceptional drive for furthering the fundraising efforts as well as strategizing and delivering on new ones as well as existing donors.

Objectives of this role

1. Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work
2. Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers
3. Spot new fundraising opportunities
4. Plan fundraising initiatives to help the organization meet financial goals
5. Form strong relationships with external stakeholders
6. Ensure major donors are satisfied and kept in the loop

Responsibilities

1. Research individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in gift giving
2. Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
3. Write grant applications and fundraising proposals
4. Strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns
5. Organize fundraising events while overseeing teams of volunteers
6. Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met
7. Competence with donor management systems

Skills

1. Evidence base of at least five years of experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing. Those with proven experience will have an added advantage.
2. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
3. Ability to lead and motivate colleagues and volunteers
4. Strong attention to detail
5. Passion for research
6. Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events.
7. Confidence in public speaking

Qualifications 

1. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Communications, Business, Public Relations, or related field.
2. Experience in writing grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters
