Job Description

The Graduation Case Worker of is responsible for implementing day-to-day activities of the graduation project, working with selected households towards the achievement of the set objectives focusing on economically empowering ultra-poor families. The Graduation Case Worker will support assessment of the poverty landscape and identifying opportunities within the implementation areas, selecting program participants, and building their capacities for resilience. The role will champion Opportunity’s vision role, coordinating with various stakeholders in the program community, and ensuring that participants achieve sustainable livelihoods and successfully graduate from the program. Acting as the bridge between Opportunity International Malawi (OIM) and the communities it serves, the Graduation Case Worker must be a trusted and engaging communicator, delivering tailored empowering interventions to marginalized individuals to help them transform their lives, businesses, and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Technical

  • Target and select activities for project beneficiaries.
  • Support with activities relating to provision of consumption support to beneficiary households.
  • Support with activities relating to livelihoods promotion including helping beneficiaries select and manage viable enterprises.
  • Support with activities relating to promotion of financial inclusion including mobilizing the beneficiaries into Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) groups and building their capacity in managing the VSLA activities.
  • Support with activities relating to social empowerment of beneficiaries including building their confidence and integration into their communities.
  • Work with the assigned number of households.
  • Attend all project-related trainings and meetings.
  • Take good care of assets provided by OIM.
  • Abide by OIM’s code of conduct, including being respectful to beneficiaries, community structures, other Case Workers, and project partners.
  • Responsive to the OIM management team. For example, returning missed calls.
  • Passionate about Opportunity’s mission. Able to promote and communicate the organization’s goals and objectives to external and internal stakeholders.

Safeguarding

  • Uphold and promote safeguarding standards within the program.
  • Read, understand, and practice safeguarding policies, ensuring that they are implemented in all activities.
  • Follow safeguarding reporting procedures and encourage others to do the same.

TYPE OF CONTRACT

  • Fixed Term Contract (3 to 16 months)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Certificate in relevant rural or community development field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in rural, community, agricultural, or economic development.
  • Strong understanding of the target market and the value of community trust.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and consensus-building abilities.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal, writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, word processing, data entry programs, tablets, and other mobile technology.
  • Passionate about Opportunity’s mission. Able to promote and communicate the organization’s goals and objectives to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Must hold a motorcycle driving license or be willing to acquire one.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Chichewa required
  • Must be able to attend & fully participate in meetings conducted in English.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel to the community almost daily to deliver projects and interact with the communities, investigate expansion opportunities, and respond to community requests.
  • Travel to other districts within Malawi for cross-learning activities, workshops, conferences, and other meetings as and when required.
