VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Timotheos Foundation is a local Malawian Christian Charity whose main objective is to support and care for orphans and other vulnerable children in Malawi. It was established on 1st September 2011 and officially registered under the Trustees incorporation act of Malawi on 3rd July 2012. We are affiliated to CONGOMA as well as the NGO Regulatory Authority. The organization is seeking to recruit a competent, committed, self-motivated, enthusiastic and Godfearing candidate of Malawian nationality for the position as detailed below;
Position : Head Teacher DLCA
Reporting to : Manager Secondary and Tertiary Education
Location : David Livingstone Christian Academy – Zomba
Status of Employment : 1 year contract renewable depending on performance and conduct
Overall responsibilities
To provide leadership and management for the Reformed secondary school, fostering a positive and inclusive educational environment. The purpose of the role is to ensure the delivery of high-quality education, promote academic excellence, and uphold the school’s mission and vision. The
Headteacher will be responsible for leading the school’s operations, curriculum development, staff management, and community engagement, ensuring that students receive good education that prepares them for their future endeavours.
Key roles and responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Provide leadership to establish and promote the school’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Contribute to the development of secondary education within the organisation.
- Develop and implement policies, and procedures to enhance the educational experience.
- Oversee day-to-day school operations, including academic programs and extracurricular activities.
- Monitor the preparation of a termly calendar of events.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive culture among staff, students, and the community.
- Attend and take part in day openings, fellowships and meditations.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s curriculum, ensuring alignment with national standards and educational best practices.
- Promote innovative teaching methods and the integration of technology to enhance learning.
- Take care of a proper process of examinations.
- Ensure effective assessment and evaluation processes to track student progress and achievement.
Student Support and Development
- Create a safe environment that supports the physical, emotional, and social well-being of all students.
- Implement programs and initiatives to support diverse learning needs, including special education and gifted programs.
- Encourage student participation in extracurricular activities, fostering personal growth and leadership skills.
- Take care of a smooth start of new students.
- Identify students’ needs.
- Provide counseling and guidance to learners.
- Promote a culture of respect, responsibility, and academic integrity.
Management of Education staff
- Provide leadership and support to the departmental heads and teachers, fostering a collaborative and motivated team environment with eye for the wellbeing of employees.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, professional development sessions which includes capacity building, and (in cooperation with HR) training workshops for headteachers and educational staff.
- Handling disciplinary measures for educational staff in close cooperation with HR and the manager secondary and tertiary education.
- Being involved in recruitment processes of academic staff.
- Conduct regular meetings with academic staff.
- Provide the manager secondary and tertiary education with HR monthly reports by the 2nd working day of every month.
Quality Assurance and Monitoring
- Conduct regular classroom observations.
- Provide feedback and coaching to educational staff on improving their competences in order to ensure a good quality of education.
- Ensure that proper teaching and learning is taking place in the classrooms.
- Check schemes of work.
- Keep termly, annually and MANEB results
- Maintaining class records e.g. attendance, scholastic and period registers.
- Maintaining discipline and classroom cleanliness.
- Prepare regular reports on program performance and outcomes.
- Manage the absenteeism for both teachers and students and make a follow up on disciplinary procedures in cooperation with the manager secondary and tertiary Education.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain positive relationships with guardians, local communities and external partners.
- Organise PTA meetings at a regular interval
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on school activities, achievements, and challenges.
- Represent the NGO at applicable conferences and meetings, promoting the organization’s vision and achievements.
Resource Management
- Manage the care of classroom property.
- Fill out requisition forms regarding Education materials Coordinate the delivery of all Education materials.
- Coordinating with the administration on class related issues.
- Any other duties as assigned by the manager secondary and tertiary education.

Education & work qualification
- Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Education.
- Experience in an educational management role is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching at secondary level for an internal candidate.
- An external candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience on a similar headship position in a busy secondary school
- In-depth knowledge of the Malawian secondary education system and national educational policies.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
