Health Project Manager – MALAWI NATIONAL Position

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: Blantyre, Malawi with travel to the project sites

Contract Type: Full time – local position

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Duration: 2-years renewable

Context

IsraAID is an international non-governmental organization that provides humanitarian aid. Our headquarters is in Israel, and we have been helping communities affected by crises in over 60 countries worldwide since our establishment in 2001. Our goal is to support these communities in rebuilding their lives and futures together, both in emergency and long-term development settings. We respond promptly to emergencies, including hurricanes, refugee crises, and global pandemics, and work closely with communities to help them become self-sufficient in preparing for and responding to emergencies and crises. IsraAID started its emergency and development activities in Malawi in March 2023 in response to Cyclone Freddy, with the aim of providing immediate relief and access to basic services. Over time, the program has expanded to focus on long-term development and resilience initiatives.

Summary

This position presents an exciting opportunity to join a growing organization focused on enhancing its global humanitarian practices. The IsraAID Malawi Country Office (CO) aims to develop its health project further and expand its reach within the Southern Region of Malawi. The Health Project Manager will be responsible for the implementation of health interventions in this region, utilizing an evidence-based approach to maximize the impact of the CO’s programs. This will include proper documentation of program outputs and communicating key insights and gaps to relevant stakeholders.

Key responsibilities of the Health Project Manager include conducting training sessions, overseeing project implementation, and following up in alignment with the 2025-2026 Health Program Strategy. The manager will lead the overall supervision and execution of health and nutrition initiatives, including hygiene and sanitation projects. Additionally, the Health Project Manager will work on building the capacity of the health team to improve the efficient and effective use of online and offline data tracking systems related to health interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Development, positioning and implementation of the health/nutrition strategy

  • Contribute to IsraAID’s overall response strategy in health, nutrition, and hygiene and sanitation, working with government partners and other relevant organisations.
  • Support the long-term capacity building and integration of health and nutrition into IsraAID’s programs in Protection and WASH.

Project Management

  • Supervise the overall implementation of project plans, ensuring adequate communication and organisation between local partners, international partners and staff.
  • Oversee the implementation of health and nutrition projects, ensuring high quality and timely delivery of all project objectives
  • Prepare project and donor reports in a timely manner and in compliance with internal requirements.
  • Work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation team and the Health Sector lead at IsraAID headquarters, and the IsraAID Malawi country team to develop and implement MEAL plans and systems.
  • Ensure that all project expenses are spent within budget limits and acquitted according to internal and donor standards.
  • Ensure standards are maintained in accordance with government strategies and priorities, and in line with international standards.

Representation, Advocacy & Organisational Learning

  • Represent IsraAID in the relevant clusters, sector forums, and technical working groups at district and regional level and whenever delegated by the Country Director and Program Manager
  • Actively participate in relevant forums ensuring IsraAID milestones and key learnings are shared with relevant stakeholders
  • Share regular reports and updates to the relevant district offices and forums
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and ensure joint implementation where necessary
  • Identify advocacy, funding and research opportunities for action
  • Coordinate with the other relevant departments at Country Level and HQ Technical Advisors to ensure effective program delivery

Compliance & Ethics

  • Ensure project activities are in alignment with donor requirements
  • Submit clearance reports in a timely manner
  • Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics in country
  • As applicable to the position, maintain a clear understanding of donor compliance and ethical standards and adheres to those standards. Conduct work with the highest level of integrity. Communicate these values to staff and to partners and require them to adhere to these values.

Skills, Experience, and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in health (Midwifery, Registered Nurse, Public Health, or other relevant field).
  • A minimum of three years of experience working around health and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of the Malawi government strategic priorities for health and nutrition.
  • Experience in working with local communities and capacity development of local staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work flexibly in challenging situations.
  • Cultural understanding of the Malawi context.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of IsraAID.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chichewa
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Chichewa is required.
