Job Description

Health System Support Officer (HSSO)– to be based in Phalombe

Inter Aide is an international non-governmental organization that has been working in Malawi since 1992 in the field of community health, agriculture, access to water and maintenance of water points. The organization is currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill the post of Health Systems Support Officer. The HSSO will be working under the Child Health Program whose goal is to reduce the number of children under five years old, including neonates, who get and/or die from preventable
diseases.

The HSSO will work closely with the Health System Support Coordinator (HSSC), Senior HSAs (SHSA), Phalombe DHO and health facility staff to deliver the following tasks in village clinics, health posts and outreach clinics within the catchment areas:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Routinely supervise and monitor the performance of each Village Clinic (VC), Health Post (HP) and Outreach sites, and take measures that support the smooth running of the services.
  • Conduct needs assessment for each facility and respond to those identified needs.
  • Make sure that each VC opens at least 2 days in a week by working together with the SHSAs and the Providers to address potential challenges that may impact the opening of the clinics.
  • Ensure that the drug consumption reports (manual or electronic e.g. c-stock) are submitted on time to the facility pharmacy and that new orders are processed before the clinic opening days.
  • Support the construction or renovation of the village clinic shelters and other requirements, e.g. sharps pit according to their capacities.
  • Conduct Village Clinic case audits for every clinic to enhance transparency and accountability.
  • Submit monthly progress reports to the Program Manager before 10th of each month.
  • Improve running of the Under five children Outreach clinics by working with the SHSAs.
  • Help in the actual running of the Outreach clinics where need be, by helping in the organization, providing quality health talks and supporting the HSAs to run the clinics as per design.
  • Any other tasks as delegated by the line Manager

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery or Public Health.
  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience as health provider or NGO work on health program is required,
  • In-depth knowledge on maternal, neonatal and child health and iCCM,
  • In-depth knowledge of DHO office organization is required,
  • Good diplomacy skills and a proven ability to sustain professional relationships with different stakeholders (DHO, traditional authorities, NGOs),
  • Motivation to work with health facilities in rural areas.
  • Training facilitation skills highly appreciated.
  • Experience writing detailed and accurate reports, computer skills (Word, Excel),
  • Team player, organized and good coordination skill, flexible and willing to learn,
  • A valid motorbike license or willingness to learn and drive on bad roads.
