Job Summary – HTS Nurse

The HTS Nurse will coordinate all aspects of HIV/STI prevention (Counselling, Testing, Referrals and HIV linkages to care programs. This position will act as a resource in HIV/STl within the KUTETEZA Project. The position supports effective implementation of the HTC service delivery through Mobile Outreach Clinics as well as MoH facilities. He/ She will directly support district teams to provide HTS including support to strengthen referral and linkages services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all logistics and daily operations related to HTS among AGYW plus their partners (including index partners) and link them to care program.
  • The HTC nurse assists the clinician in ensuring smooth implementation of the HTC service delivery within the facility.
  • He /She will directly support the service delivery team in HIV prevention programs, strengthen referral and linkage services.
  • Provides direct supervision to HTS Counsellors and ensures:
  • Work in MOH clinics as needed providing HIV testing and identifying index cases.
  • Collaborate with DHO to ensure availability of adequate services and of health commodities and support with human resource during outreach clinics.
  • Collaborate with SBCC teams and community groups to develop goals and interventions to increase access to HTS services for AGYW and their partners.
  • Support DHO in effective management and documentation of referrals that meet AGYW healthcare needs.
  • Completion of reports required by KUTETEZA timely.
  • Ensures accurate community referrals for the AGYW receiving HTS in the respective districts.
  • Participates in relevant TWG meetings at district and national level to promote understanding and support of program services.
  • In collaboration with the HTC Counsellor, ensures the provision of quality, evidence-based HTC, ART and other prevention services.
  • Ensures maintenance of patient confidentiality
  • Works closely with the HTC Counsellor and District Coordinators to supervise community program staff and ensure achievement of targets.
  • Ordering of HIV test kits, condoms and other consumables for use during clinical outreach in a timely manner to make sure that there is uninterrupted delivery of services.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of all services provided.
  • Ensures proper disposal of biohazardous wastes.

Education and Experiences

  • Must be registered with Nurses Council and has an active subscription.
  • Minimum Diploma in Nursing and Micwifery from a recognized institution
  • Prior experience in ART clinic
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be self- motivated.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in HIV program management.
  • Knowledge of minimum 95:95:95 is highly essential.
  • Must be highly organized and capable of effective multi-tasking.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • HTC and ART Certification

  • Strengthened documentation and reporting deliverables as per the performance monitoring plan (PMP)
