Partners in Hope (PIH) was established in 2004 by Dr. Perry Jansen, an American Family Physician, and a group of committed Malawian professionals to address the devastating HIV and AIDS epidemic in Malawi. PIH Medical Center formally opened in November 2005, with Dalitso Private Clinic, Pharmacy, Laboratory and Tiyanjane Counselling Center. PIH’s strategy arose from close engagement with the Ministry of Health early in the process of developing and implementing successful scale up of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Our programs are in three main areas i.e. Health Service Delivery, Medical Education and Research, and Capacity Bullding.

Our comparative advantage among others include the cutting-edge diagnostic work, local ownership of the vision and the holistically client centred approach which has set us apart from other service providers in the health sector. In addition to operating a general clinic, inpatient ward and HIV/AIDS clinic, the program unit provides support to Ministry of Health and CHAM health facilities in nine districts trom Chitipa to Nsanje. Teams are working to meet the 95-95-95 fargets for HIV testing, retention in care and viral load suppression through training, mentorship, supervision and health systems strengthening. Partners in Hope – under the RESPOND project is seeking to recruit highly motivated individual for the below position:

IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE OFFICER (1) LILONGWE

Overview :

The Implementation Science Officer will work as part of Partners in Hope implementation science team. This position will contribute to several Research Studies conducted by Partners in Hope. The Implementation Science Officer will be responsible for all qualitative data management, data collection, and data entry for a diverse range of research projects at PIH. Data include primarily in-depth interviews with clients receiving HIV services and healthcare providers and potential medical chart abstraction. The Implementation Science Officer will be directly responsible for administrative/logistical management of all tasks related to Field Assistants contracts.

Scope

The Implementation Science Officer will oversee qualitative data management for a diverse range of research projects at PIH. The position will report to the Implementation Science Coordinator. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:

  • Manage qualitative data
  • Conduct data quality control activities including accuracy of original dato and data cleaning
  • Support study coordinators to train Field Assistants and pilot data collection tools
  • Support coordinators to conduct, study related workshops and meetings
  • Support study monitoring activities
  • Coding transcripts using qualitative software (like NVivo or ATLAS.ti)
  • Organize data collection activities, including active collaboration with health facilities and Care and Treatment teams
  • Manage Field Assistants during all phases of qualitative data collection
  • Serve as a member of the research team, and participate in regularly scheduled meetings
  • Communicate with the research team about relevant project issues and provide updates as requested
  • Liaise, establish, and maintain productive, effective working relationships with facility staff at research sites and ensure minimum disruption to normal clinic activities
  • Submit research data and reports as requested
  • Supporting ethics and compliance by maintaining and tracking study protocols
  • Act as the focal person for IRB correspondence

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelors in Development Studies, Public Health, or similar fields;
  • Experience managing qualitative data including in-depth interviews and/or focus group discussions
  • Experience managing Field Assistants during data collection
  • Experience managing data entry activities
  • Experience conducting data quality control activities
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to navigate busy clinical setting with limited resources and work as part of a team;
  • Ability to adhere to strict schedules and deadlines;
  • Excellent problem solving;
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and accuracy;
  • Must have a strong sense of initiative;
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within and outside team environment
  • She/he should also be able to work independently, with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
