COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited is a member owned organization with a national footprint,
registered under the Cooperative Act 1998. COMSIP works with rural and peri-urban community
groups that are owned, managed and controlled by members themselves and its main thrust is
building a culture of savings and investment among ordinary Malawians in a quest to improve
livelihoods.
COMSIP has received funding from the World Bank through the National Government Finance
Commission (NLGFC) towards the implementation of Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods
Project (SSRLP). COMSIP therefore intends to use part of the funding to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, and result oriented project staff on the posts tenable at COMSIP Head Office, in Lilongwe as follows.
Internal Audit Assistant
Job Description
The Internal Audit Assistant will be a committed professional who will report directly to the Internal Audit Officer and will be expected to contribute to the successful delivery of annual plans. He/she will be expected to implement audit programmes as laid down in the programme guidelines. The candidate will be expected to operate in a team environment whilst at the same time be assigned responsibility for specific assignments. The ability to communicate effectively is an essential requirement for this post and strong report writing skills are required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The duties include but not limited to:
- Assist in the implementation of the audit function and programmes in the Internal Audit Unit.
- Participate in the review and evaluation of the efficiency of operations of accounting, administrative and other management systems and procedures.
- Presentation of clear, concise and timely working papers in line with International Internal Auditing Standards.
- Provide support in preparing timely draft and final audit reports.
- Assist in conducting ad hoc investigations on financial operations and systems.
Qualification, experience, skills and knowledge requirements
- Certificate or Diploma in Accounting.
- Membership to the Institute of Internal Auditors in Malawi.
- Minimum five years’ proven experience for those with a certificate in accounting and three years experience for those with a Diploma working in an audit environment preferably public sector.
- Knowledge in cooperative movement; working with rural people will be an added advantage.
- Excellent technical audit and accounting skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively at all levels.
- Ability to present adequate working papers to enable assessment of work done and matters to be reported.
- Always act in a professional and ethical manner including observing the confidential nature of Internal Audit’s work.
- Highly organised with planning skills and ability to prioritise tasks and deliver assigned audits with limited supervision.
- Excellent IT skills.
Desirable
- Internal or external audit experience.
- Honesty and high integrity.
- Attention to detail.
- Communication skills.
- Public sector audit experience and an understanding of the regulatory environment.
- Excellent IT audit skills e.g. use of CAATs.
