Job Description

The National Youth Council of Malawi is a statutory corporation established by an Act of Parliament-The National Youth Council of Malawi Act (Act No 22 of 1996). Its functions include developing, promoting, and controlling youth activities, registering youth organizations, organizing scholarships, establishing cooperation guidelines, and promoting training courses. The Council’s vision is to build a Malawi where young people can develop their full potential and contribute to sustainable development. It is an implementing arm of the Ministry of Youth, comprising the General Assembly, Board of Directors, Secretariat, and affiliates (registered youth organizations). The Council works collaboratively with youth organizations, government agencies, civil society, and other stakeholders to empower young people and advocate for policies that promote their development and participation in national decision-making processes.

INTERNAL AUDITOR

Profile of the position

The Internal Auditor reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead in development and review of internal auditing policies such as internal audit charter and operational manuals
  • Develop and implement risk-based annual audit plan for NYCOM and its affiliates.
  • Conduct audits for accounts, administration, human resources and Programmes departments of NYCOM and affiliates.
  • Advise NYCOM and affiliates on ways to improve operational and financial performance.
  • Ensure internal accounting procedures and operational systems are adequate and effective.
  • Ensure NYCOM compliance with regulations related to its legal status.
  • Evaluate and advise Board and management on possible areas of risks and risk management procedures.
  • Monitor the implementation of recommendations from internal audit and other assurance providers
  • Coordinate with other assurance providers including external auditors to ensure proper coverage and minimize duplications of activities
  • Present internal audit reports to the Board and management.
  • Train NYCOM and Youth leaders on basic audit principles and procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Internal Auditing or Accounting from a reputable institution.
  • Member of Institute of Internal Auditors of Malawi.
  • CIA/ICAM/ACCA/CIMA holders will have an added advantage.
  • 2 years proven experience in internal auditing systems and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to change and multi-task
  • Unbiased attitude
  • Familiarity with audit software
  • High integrity
