Synthesis agriculture company Limited is a private company that specializes in Agri-marketing, research and training, seed multiplication, unlimited extension services, implementation of innovative irrigation, water supply and engineering works, agri-business and financing.
The company was established with an aim of promoting the agriculture sector, creating jobs for the youth, inspiring farmers and the retired through production, marketing and value addition. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The candidate will be responsible for the planning, management, and maintenance of irrigation systems to ensure efficient water resource use, support agricultural productivity, and comply with regulations while promoting sustainable practices and community engagement. The specific responsibilities may vary depending on the context and the organization they work for.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- System Oversight: Manage and maintain irrigation infrastructure to ensure efficient water delivery.
- Water Allocation: Distribute water based on crop needs and priorities.
- Monitoring: Regularly inspect systems for maintenance and repairs.
- Scheduling: Create irrigation schedules tailored to crop and environmental conditions.
- Data Collection: Gather and analyze water usage and system performance data.
- Water Quality: Ensure water meets agricultural standards and address quality issues.
- Compliance: Adhere to environmental and regulatory standards, mitigating any negative impacts.
- Technical Support: Provide farmers with guidance on modern irrigation methods.
- Training: Educate farmers on efficient water use through training sessions.
- Emergency Planning: Develop contingency plans for droughts, floods, and system failures.
- Collaboration: Work with government agencies and communities to promote sustainable water management.
- Budget Management: Oversee financial resources for irrigation projects.
- Documentation: Maintain records to support decision-making and reporting.
- Research: Stay updated on new technologies to improve irrigation efficiency.
- Community Engagement: Address stakeholder concerns and build support for initiatives.
- Reporting: Prepare performance reports for decision-makers and stakeholders.
COMPETENCIES AND KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s in irrigation engineering, agricultural engineering and irrigation technology.
- Knowledge of irrigation principles, hydraulics, and hydrology
- Pruriency in CAD design software and irrigation design tools (e.g., EPANET, AutoCAD, GIS)
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
- Fluency in English and Chichewa
- IT skills (email, internet, Microsoft Office)
- Experience in data management and databases
- Must be a resident of Blantyre
- Knowledge of electronics (including solar energy systems) and driving license (added advantage)
- Those with Driving License will have the added advantage
