Job Description

Faculty of Commerce              

The University of Blantyre Synod invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill seven full time and three part time positions at lecturer level in the Faculty of Commerce. The Faculty of Commerce offers Bachelor of Commerce Business Management, Bachelor of Commerce Marketing Management and Diploma ABMA. It is also in the process of applying for registration with the National Council of Higher Education a Bachelor of Commerce Accounting and Finance.

Qualifications

Master’s in Commerce or its equivalent plus 3 years’ experience in teaching undergraduate/post graduate students. Those with PhD will have an added advantage.

Duties

1. Teaching and Learning

a. setting and timely marking examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in educational courses

b. Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate practical projects

c. Mentoring and tutoring of students

2. Research

a. Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research work

b. Scholarly peer-reviewed publications for the advancement of oneself and the profile of the Department, the school and the University.

c. To take leadership or participate in inter-disciplinary, and multidisciplinary groups for research and joint publications

3. Community engagement

a. Conceptualization and implementation of outreach programmes with other staff members

b. Creation of links with industry both locally and internationally for collaborations in projects, research work and exchange programs for students and other staff members

4. Administration

a. Resource mobilisation for academic, scholarly and outreach activities in the department.

b. To be an ambassador for the department, the school and the university

c. To take up any official tasks or duties as assigned by the Head of Department, the Dean, and the Vice Chancellor of the University from time to time.
