Job Description
The National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (NEEF) is a government owned Microfinance Institution whose mission is to economically empower ordinary and underserved Malawians particularly women, youth, and persons with disability through the provision of quality, affordable, and sustainable microfinance services for improved livelihoods.
NEEF invites applications from suitably qualified, mature, ambitious, professional Malawi nationals with a passion for results and respect for ethics and hands-on experience to fill the following vacant positions at its various zones:
LEGAL COUNSEL NF4 – 4 positions
Reporting to: Senior Legal Counsel.
Job Purpose
To provide expert and strategic legal support and advice to the Fund, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while protecting the its interests.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting litigation on behalf of the Fund;
- Liaising with external counsel on legal matters being handled by the Fund;
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure compliance with the law and secure Fund’s interests;
- Providing legal protection and risk management advice to management and staff especially on contract management and security perfection;
- Reviewing and advising Management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures;
- Monitoring compliance with statutory obligations and advising Management accordingly.
- Facilitating creditors reconciliation according to supplier’s statement;
- Liaising with relevant departments to identify legal risks and their appropriate mitigation and remedial measures;
- Providing input in the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures related to legal compliance and risk management;
- Conducting legal research to stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards that may impact the Fund’s operations;
- Identifying, recommending and implementing strategies for resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution methods before they escalate to litigation; and
- Sourcing of external legal counsel as directed, ensuring that their services align with the Fund’s objectives and budget.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) from an accredited institution.
- 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in legal practice, corporate governance, or compliance roles, with at least 2 years in a similar role.
- Admission to the Malawi Bar and a valid license to practice law in Malawi.
- Relevant certifications in corporate governance or compliance.
