Key Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Project Officer will be responsible for the successful implementation and management of the Livestock for Economic and Nutrition Empowerment project focusing on livelihood and resilience enhancement. The role involves community engagement, project planning, monitoring and reporting, collaboration, capacity building, and advocacy with a strong emphasis on child and adult safeguarding. The role entails ensuring the timely implementation of budgeted project interventions. Moreover, it seeks to optimize the implementation of prioritized project models while also incorporating measurable technical precision.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning, Implementation, Monitoring & Reporting
Facilitate development and or review of detailed annual implementation plans for the project
Facilitate the implementation of project interventions on time and within budget.
Implement risk mitigation plan for the project
Implement all project audit findings within acceptable standards
Conduct technical project reviews with sector partners within a cluster
In collaboration with M&E officer, develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess project progress and impact.
Conduct regular field visits to monitor activities, collect data, and evaluate effectiveness.
Develop and submit monthly, quarterly, semi-annual & annual reports as required
Prepare and submit detailed progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
Ensure all activities comply with local regulations and donor requirements.
Discuss and address any issues or challenges that arise during project implementation with district program team
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of project activities, progress, and results.
Plan and coordinate community events, such as goat pass on events, environmental management activities

Collaboration & Capacity building
Identify technical and organizational capacity gaps among community groups, volunteers, stakeholders and partners
Organize and implement capacity building initiatives
Provide ongoing support and mentorship to community leaders and project participants.
Strengthen the capacities of grassroots partners and stakeholders in monitoring and evaluation.
Facilitate stakeholder meetings and maintain effective communication channels.
Organize and conduct training sessions to build the capacity of local stakeholders in livestock related sustainable practices and project-related skills
- Community and local stakeholders’ capacity building plan in place

Child Protection & Advocacy
Sensitize technical programme structures & partners on child and adult safeguarding behaviors and protocols.
Report and support follow up of child and adult safeguarding issues in technical programme.
Integrate Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in project interventions.
Represent the program in relevant technical forums at local & district level
Ensure that all project activities are conducted in a manner that prioritizes the safety and well-being of children.
Implement child protection policies and procedures in all aspects of the project.
Advocate for the rights and needs of children within the community and project framework.
Raise awareness about child protection issues and promote best practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:
The incumbent should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Social Sciences, or a related field.
At least three years’ experience in project management at community level working with different partners including government, community structures and other CSO’s
Demonstrated interpersonal skills
Very good oral and written communication skills in English and ability to write quality report,
Good facilitation skills
Analytical & critical thinking skills
Good collaboration skills
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management, preferably in landscape restoration, livelihoods, or carbon projects.
- Strong understanding of ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture, and carbon sequestration principles.
- Proven experience in community engagement and participatory approaches.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software.
- Understanding of child protection policies and advocacy strategies.
- Willingness to travel extensively to project sites and work in remote areas.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Three years’ experience working in the NGO sector
Motor cycle rider with a clean riding license
Project planning and management skills
Community facilitation and capacity-building abilities
Technical expertise in landscape restoration and sustainable livelihoods
Advocacy and awareness-raising capabilities
Adaptability and resilience in challenging environments
