Job purpose |
The role holder will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination to the medical department in country businesses. This includes medical sales, medical underwriting and medical claims. The incumbent will ensure the department strategies, objectives and action plans for profitable growth are formulated and implemented on an on-going basis as stipulated in the business plan. The role will report to the Chief Executive Officer. |
Key responsibilities |
1. Procure medical insurance business from intermediaries and ensure that effective marketing networks are maintained with the major brokers 2. Ensure that the company’s customer service benchmarks for claims, underwriting and policy issuance are consistently achieved 3. Ensure that all reinsurance treaties are in force and that the reinsurance premiums are competitively priced 4. Manage relationships with clients, intermediaries and service providers 5. Ensure that medical insurance business is profitable and that the profit and cost centres in the department are consistently on budget 6. Ensure that the medical Insurance business revenue budgets are achieved consistently on a monthly basis 7. Manage staff levels and resources, provide direction, set goals and ensure that overall business goals are attained 8. Plan and direct training, performance evaluations and career development to develop and retain staff 9. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time 10. Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments’ strategy map, balanced scorecard and Personal Scorecard. |

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

1. Bachelor’s degree (insurance option preferred). Masters’ Degree is an added advantage 2. Professional qualification in Insurance (ACII) 3. 7-10 years successful insurance experience 3-4 of which should be in a management position |
