Medical Assistant (Grade L) – 1 Post – (Hospital Payroll)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing the outpatient unit and ensure that the unit has necessary supplies to deliver quality health care to patients
- Making a thorough screening and attending to patients consequently make a comprehensive diagnosis
- Examining patients manually
- Refer patients to laboratory and other units for tests
- Prescribing the right treatment based on the examinations made
- Recommending admissions for critically ill patients
- Conducting minor surgeries under local anaesthesia
- Referring patients for major surgeries to medical specialist with consultation with the clinical officers, senior medical officer.
- Reporting data in relevant registers and instruments, compiling and analyzing data, performing monthly monitoring, disseminating information to relevant stakeholders and submitting quarterly report to the designated supervisor according to HMIS guidelines
- Ensuring that all patients going through consultation have been captured in the J 2 machine
- Performing any other duties deemed fit, assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Certificate in Clinical Medicine from reputable training institution with two years hands – on experience
- Registered with medical council of Malawi
Knowledge, Ability and Skills
- Well conversant with the Health system in Malawi
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Effective communication skills
- Problem identification and solving skills
- Empathetic and friendly
Note: The Position is on yearly contract, basis, subject to renewal depending on satisfactory performance and availability of resources.
