Job Description

God’s Grace Academy, an International Christian Day and Boarding High School offering the Cambridge curriculum, is currently seeking applications for qualified and experienced personnel to fill the following positions starting in September 2024. Applicants must be mature born-again Christians,
committed to the school’s Christian values and principles.

1. Academic position

1) Geography teacher

Job Description:

We are seeking dedicated and experienced Cambridge Geography teacher to join God’s Grace Academy. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in teaching and a passion for nurturing students’ skills.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education Geography or any relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience in at a Cambridge school.
  • Pedagogical Skills: Ability to develop and deliver engaging and effective lessons that cater to diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, engage with students, and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
  • Commitment: Dedication to student success, fostering a positive learning environment, and contributing to the overall academic and personal growth of students.

2. Boarding Mistress (1)

  • Experience: 3-5 years in education, preferably boarding school environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of child development and crisis management.
  • Qualities: Maturity, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to student well-being.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to participate in activities and oversee student supervision.
  • Commitment: Availability for evening and weekend responsibilities on campus.
  • Clearances: Background checks and regulatory compliance required.

3. School Nurse

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 2-4 years experience

The duties are as follows:

a) Monitoring the wellbeing of all students and staff to ensure prompt intervention on any ill health.
b) Providing emergency care/first aid treatment to students and staff during medical emergencies such as CPR and Basic life support.
c) Providing basic healthcare for sick students and administering prescribed medication.
d) Providing the necessary healthcare support and procedures to students with some medical conditions and chronic illnesses (e.g. wound, asthma and diabetes), and disabilities. For example, doing wound dressing and administering insulin injections.
e) Developing and monitoring healthcare plan for students with chronic illnesses.
f) Identifying care requirement for sick students, developing individualized plan of care, implementing care, evaluating and re-planning care if necessary.
g) Escorting sick students to the hospital for treatment if first aid treatment did not work.
h) Taking leadership role in times of emergencies and disasters.
i) Contacting parents when students are sick or injured in consultation with the boarding staff and the Principal. Providing psychological support and counselling with compassion to learners and staff where need be.
j) Checking on condition of students admitted at the hospital and ensuring that they are served with appropriate meals.
k) Providing and promoting health education to learners and staff on hygiene, proper nutrition and safety practices and ensuring compliance with national health policies in Malawi.
l) Monitoring and recording sick students’ condition and ensuring that any care services provided is well documented.
m) Keeping, filing and updating health records of students including keeping track of their vaccination records.
n) Maintaining first aid kit and ensuring that it has all the necessary drugs.
o) Referring all sick students beyond her/his scope to the hospital for proper medical care.
p) Maintaining stock cards of all drugs and sundries in the school clinic.

4. Gardener/groundkeeper (1)

  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in gardening and landscaping, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
  • Skills: Proficiency in planting, pruning, and maintaining various plants, flowers, and trees. Knowledge of irrigation systems and lawn care.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, digging, and operating garden machinery.
  • Teamwork: Collaborative attitude to work effectively with other gardeners and school staff.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and occasional weekends for special events or maintenance needs.
