Mission and objectives

UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide. It works globally to make the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls and stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on four strategic priorities: Women lead, participate in and benefit equally from governance systems Women have income security, decent work and economic autonomy All women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence Women and girls contribute to and have greater influence in building sustainable peace and resilience, and benefit equally from the prevention of natural disasters and conflicts and humanitarian action UN Women also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality, and in all deliberations and agreements linked to the 2030 Agenda. The entity works to position gender equality as fundamental to the Sustainable Development Goals, and a more inclusive world.

Context

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women Malawi Country Office was set up in October 2012, following a request from the Government of Malawi and the UN in Malawi to help address key areas around gender inequalities and discriminatory provisions. The work of UN Women in Malawi in the upcoming five-year period will be guided by its new Country Strategic Note (SN) for 2022 -2025. The SN is aligned with the Global Strategic Plan of UN Women for 2022-2025 and aims to contribute to the gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Task description

Within the delegated authority, the Network Coordinator will be reporting to the NGOGCN Board Chairperson and will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Coordinate the NGO GCN Portfolios – Coordinate the overall work plan development and implementation according to the Strategic plan of the network. – Gather inputs and coordinate the preparation of work-plans, periodic narrative progress reports and expenditures status reports to the Board and donors. – Establish systems for project planning, implementation, and monitoring, in collaboration with network members. – Record and maintain documents on relevant programme activities, issues, and risks.

2. Guide coordination with members and other stakeholders. – Coordinate work performed by Permanent committees of the network. – Identify capacity building needs and support secretariat staff and network members access technical assistance, mentoring, training, and capacity development initiatives as needed.

3. Coordinate the monitoring and reporting on the NGO GCN programmes – Gather and compile all information necessary for monitoring and reporting on programmes and projects from the planning to the evaluation stages. – Monitor the implementation of activities and the expenditure of funds as required. – Draft and provide inputs to annual and quarterly reports; coordinate the submission of financial and narrative reports by Permanent committees on work done with NGO GCN funds to the donors.

4. Manage people and financial resources. – Coordinate development and preparation of financial resources of the programme including budgeting and budget revisions, and expenditure tracking and reporting. – Monitor the allocation and disbursement of funds to participating partners. – Supervise and appraise all secretariat staff. – Build partnerships and support in developing resource mobilization strategies. – Provide inputs to the development of partnerships and resource mobilization strategies. – Develop proposals for funding

5. Advocate and facilitate knowledge building and management and communication. – Document the programme implementation process and produce different learning products. – Contribute to the exchange of information and provide inputs to the development of knowledge products internally and externally of the programme; – Coordinate the organization of major advocacy campaigns, events, trainings, workshops, and knowledge products.

6.Representation role – Represent the network in events, meetings which require secretariat presence. – Inform the Board of any events, meetings and any other functions which require Board’s representation. – Work with the Board Chairperson to organize meetings of the Board and the network and ensure minutes and all reports associated with this role are available Results/expected outputs: • Coordination of the NGO GCN Portfolios • Coordination of the monitoring and reporting on the NGO GCN programmes • Management of people and financial resources. • Development of partnerships and support in resource mobilization strategies. • Advocating and facilitation of knowledge building and management and communication. • Representation role • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment Please note: The successful candidate will hold a UNV contract under UN Women and will report daily to NGO GCN

Requirements

Required experience

7 years of experience in managerial work and three of which must be in an NGO environment Experience in the design and implementation of projects, including preparation of project reports Experience in coordinating budgeting processes, managing budgets, and monitoring and supervising administrative processes.
