Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide professional nursing care for assigned patients in medical, surgical, paediatric and obstetric units according to established standards and practices. To help make the company’s clinic where clients feel cared for.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Consult with and keep the supervisor informed of the activities and well-being of patients assigned to you.

2. Follow established routines and utilize supplies and equipment cost-effectively.

3. Maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.

4. Maintain patient’s rights and confidentiality on patients and personnel.

5. Admit and orient patients. Receive detailed reports on assigned patients. Write ongoing reports on the condition of patients.

6. Prepare for doctors’ rounds and accompany doctors on rounds. Ensure that doctor’s orders on patients are carried out. Arrange for appointments when patients are discharged.

7. Attend to patients’ personal hygiene, i.e. bed bath, oral care, hair care, fingernails and pressure area care.

8. Give medications accordingly as to dressings and ambulation of patients. Feed patients

9. Check IVs, and catheters and record the intake and output of patients. Check V/S, follow laboratory results and ensure that the results are pinned on the patient chart.

10. Attend in-service training and other meetings. Ensure cooperation with other personnel.

11. Attend to any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery from an accredited school of nursing. Registered and current licence. Sufficient previous clinical experience in medical and surgical nursing.
