Job Description

Sunbird Savings and Credit Cooperative (Sunbird Sacco) was registered in 2002 under Cooperative Society Act no. 36 of 1998. It is also Licensed by the Reserve Bank of Malawi under financial services Act 2010 and Financial Cooperative Act 2011.It is an affiliate to Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperative (MUSCCO).

Sunbird Sacco is a member owned and controlled organization whose aim is to promote regular savings and provide a variety of financial services to its members.

Sunbird SACCO is therefore seeking the services of Operations Manager

Job Purpose

The Operations Manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations of all points of service delivery, allocation of resources in all branch networks, ensuring seamless delivery of service to the SACCO members and stakeholders. Ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the Sunbird Saccos operations. The position also contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Recruitment & Retention of members

  • Following up on branch and satellites recruitment in liaison with the marketing department and planning initiatives to boost member growth. Planning and implementing retention strategies to achieve targets.

2. Mobilization of Savings

  • Planning and monitoring member savings strategy and ensuring that all Branches meet their targets in savings mobilization.

3. Growing a healthy loan portfolio

  • Ensuring that all branches and satellites increase a loan portfolio: by meeting the given target, generating quality loan portfolio with acceptable delinquency ratio. Making sure that loans are processed within stipulated turn around time. Ensuring that loan processing procedures and policy are followed.
  • Ensuring 100% collection of loan repayments month to month

4. Managing efficient and effective processes

  • Planning and following up that branches and satellites are following procedures in their daily processes; maintaining speed and accuracy. Making sure that all operations are done productively; focusing on good time management; avoid wastage of all other resources. Coming up with authorization levels and limits and overnight cash holding limits and ensuring adherence to the same by branches.

5. Resource utilisation

  • Planning on how branches are to be managing their resources. Coming up with innovative and creative ways of doing operations effectively and efficiently (in branches and satellites) to ensure maximum productivity, profitability and sustainability.

6. Financial performance

  • Driving the branch network towards increasing income, reducing expenditure and achieving surplus targets.

7. Performance Management

  • Making sure that all subordinates have their job descriptions, Performance contracts in time and appraisals done accordingly. Leave days planning for team and self.

8. Risk Management

  • Making sure that supervision checks are done as per plan.
  • Following up on progress of issues raised during audit reports(Internal audits, RBM on site evaluations, Risk and compliance reports and External Audits).
  • Providing timely management responses to internal audits, management letters and supervisory reports. Supervision procedure of branches and agencies is put in place, revised and implemented with utmost thoroughness to ensure branches are perform their duties in accordance with procedures and policies of the SACCO at all times.
  • And any other duties assigned from time to time

Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or business related field plus 3 years’ experience.
  • Excellent Written and oral Communication
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Determination to achieve targets
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
