WaterAid is looking for experienced individuals to play a vital role in contributing towards our mission to transform lives with safe water, sanitation and hygiene in Malawi’s unserved communities. The following positions are tenable in Lilongwe, with frequent travel.

POLICY & SECTOR ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST

Reporting to the Head of Policy Advocacy and Communications, the Specialist position takes responsibility for the planning, coordination and management of sector engagement interventions as guided by the Universality and WASH for Public Health Programmes as well as the WaterAid Malawi 5 Year Influencing Plan. This role works in close collaboration with the Programme Manager for Universality, Programme Manager for Wash for Public Health and Communications Manager to ensure an integrated approach. The role is expected to add value to the programmes by influencing policy in the sector based on the lessons learnt in the two programmes. Public mobilisation as well as sector engagement will be key strategies.

Specifically, the Policy and Sector Engagement Specialist, will be responsible for the following:

  • Policy development and implementation
  • Partner Management
  • People Management and Leadership
  • Financial Management
  • Grants management
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
  • Learning and networking

To be successful, you’ll need:

A Bachelors’ Degree in Arts, Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, Public Health from a recognized University, or professional qualifications in civil engineering, water and sanitation, environment with proven experience in social mobilisation and advocacy. A Master’s degree is desirable.

In addition, he or she must have at least Minimum of five years’ experience in programme planning, development and management.
